HI all,
I just found this site today and hope to learn and participate as I improve my health. I read PP and followed the program and lost considerable weight back 8 years or so ago. I went back to my regular hedonistic eating and drinking so now I have all the maladys: high BP and Cholesterol and too much weight. I am now 250/5'11" and since I cant grow 8" taller to become the right BMI, I have to lose weight. The goal is to get to 175lbs, better muscle tone, and healthier cardio condition. I Have lots of time on my hands to plan the food intake and workout so that will not be an excuse.
I look forward to getting to know you all and add to the supportive attitude on this site!

Thanks so much. I've just ordered PP, PPLP, and the gram counter books. I gave my last copy of PP to a friend. Until I get the books Its going to be exercising, lean meat, water, and greens. I want to give up the meds for BP and Cholesterol but I think I will start the PP program first.

Just saw an abdominal scan of myself and it showed the visceral fat that was talked about in PPLP. And there is lots of it. I am totally grossed out and can now understand why my BP is high. Got the kidney squish going.
I am working my way through PPLP and REALLY like the way it describes the physiology of eating.
I have dropped 10lbs of water and the edema is gone from my shins. Amazing how this stuff works.
I am trying to decide if I should stop taking the BP and cholesterol meds now or wait.
Thanks for the great forum I read more of it every day.

Thanks for the update, Rob. I'm glad it's going so well. It's good to be rid of that excess water, isn't it? Fluid retention in the legs is generally my first indication that I've had to many carbs - an indentation round the top of my socks. I'm afraid the fat takes a little bit longer, but you'll get rid of that too, before long.
Have you discussed the BP meds with your doctor? You're very likely to need to adjust the dose.

I think one of the Moderators will probably answer this pretty quickly but just in case. You should take all medicines prescribed by your Dr. until monitoring by you and him/her tell you that they are no longer needed. The plan does work quickly that's why they recommend a starting blood profile and working with your Doctor to monitor changes needed in your medication. Hope I didn't scare you off with this answer! :D

Curious about the Ab Scan? How'd you get this? What'd it cost? Insurance coverage? Gory details, please.
Wait on stopping BP & Cholesterol Meds. Or at least discuss it with your doctor. Different people have different results. I dropped my total cholesterol from 295 to 235 in about 10 weeks. Nearly all loss from LDL (TriG were 75 at onset, 50 at retest). This is not necessarily typical, but it happens for some. But definitely see.
Please, tell all about Ab Scan!

I went in for possible kidney stones and they had me do the scan to look at the kidneys, bladder, and Liver. It showed kidneys being normal and the liver had some fat deposits. The Urologist showed me that I had a complete bilateral ureter duplication 4 tubes instead of 2 running between the kidneys and bladder. He said that it is an very unusual variant but still "normal". The viceral fat deposits were large and obvious big globs filling up and pushing out between the organs. There is very little subcutaneous fat by comparison. No idea about the cost as it was through Kaiser.
Have been good at the denial of what I saw in the mirror, but when I had to look at the reality of how much fat there is, right there on the computer screen, it really creeped me out.
I am keeping the EECs below 30 and building up the protein amount as my exercise increases. Keeping the cals below 1500.
Tapering off the statins and HCTZ as I loose weight probably would be a better Idea. My MD at Kaiser seems to be the arbitrary type.
