What have you got planned for today?
(This from the scratch paper is my friend person)

I have to go to work....1st time I've gone to work on a Saturday since I started the job nearly two years ago...but I volunteered for this training meeting and it means I get to leave 3 hours early next Friday.

My meals are all planned for the day and will be posted in the appropriate thread. Since it's not a workday workday, I won't get in my regular M-F walking and stairs, although I will get some stairs in today. I will do my Bands workout this morning....the weather is turning bad for the next few days with white stuff expected for the next few days, so physical activity will be challenging.

My attitude is on the + side at a 10 right now...but is usually is there this time of day and I don't anticipate any misses today....

I've signed up to play in a Texas Hold-Em tournament tomorrow....I haven't played in months....so I probably won't be there long :D Regardless of my ability to bluff my way into the winners seat I will hit the Mall and begin my shopping excursion for my upcoming trip to Columbus (all new clothes~smaller clothes~that fit). I'm coming to see you Missy ;) .

I anticipate good things from myself this weekend because I've planned for good things to happen. The only way for things not to work out well is if I allow that to happen because....I am in charge....I am in control....and....I rule my world with an iron fist (early onset of senile dementia in my case is beneficial).

Make excellent choices,
Michelle

Good morning, Michelle :).

I've done my weekly farmers market shopping - a chicken & some vegetables. After lunch I'll go out again for some more recreational shopping. I want to have a browse in the bookshop to find some suggestions for places to go walking and photographing within convenient driving distance. I might pick up some more food too, because I noticed that the deli had a big shelf full of Italian fennel, which would make a good winter salad, especially if they have some blood oranges as well.

I'm also going to do some sewing, to see if I can finally finish the top I started just before we went away in November .

I'm thinking of tuna & salad for lunch, then leftover chicken cooked with mozarella & bacon for dinner (or roast lamb, and do the chicken tomorrow night).

Morning all,

Today's motivationall quote is from that most difficult to categorize of bands, Def Leppard:

Let's get, let's get, let's get, let's get rocked
Let's get, let's get, let's get, let's get rocked
Let's go all the way, get it night'n'day
C'mon let's get, let's get, let's get, let's get rocked.

Whatever it is you do to get rocked, go all the way, get it as often as you can fit it in, and commit.

No idea what's going on today. Other than dry cleaning, that I have to get out in the next 49 minutes. I guess I'd better get rocking on that.

Today, My afternoon plans are to support my husband's work fundraiser for his department (Parks) for a Chili cookoff! He made his chili last night, I'm so proud of him, ALL by himself!! (He doesn't normally cook, he can cook, but doesn't usually) ~ anyways this was his award winning recipe from last year that he's made again. lol

So, my lunch will be to taste Chili's...which isn't one of my FAVORITES....but I'll eat around the beans.

AAaahhhhh....
I'm back from Florida. What an EXHAUSTING week!
I was there on business, and my job was to plan the meetings and activities and make sure it went smoothly and everyone stayed on "schedule", so it was ANYTHING but a vacation!

Anyway, Shadow, give me a NO for 2/6 thru 2/9. I'm not sad or upset. I actually feel really good about the choices I made. When I DID eat carbs, I ate sensibly - like I do when I'm on maintenance. I ate potatoes, but only 1/4 or 1/2. I ate my protein first, I avoided deep fried foods whenever possible, and I ate FRESH FISH everyday, (this is NOT something we get here in Minnesota). I took my supps and exercised every day while away. I did not, however, count my carbs or get enough water.

I have one more busy day today, then I'm going to be FREE of RESPONSIBLITY for 1.5 days! I'm back on plan today, and although I went from 75 degrees yesterday to 0 today, I'm going to get out and MOVE today!

Off to Trader Joe's.

Back later.

Started off the day with another long phone call, this from a friend that needed help with her computer--well, that explains the "longness" of the conversation--as you all know already ---I am computer illerate !!

Soooo, it was the blind leading the blind and that is time consuming. Aaannnd ,we didn't solve her problem anyway. I could do it with my computer, but she could not do it on her computer. It was just copy and paste from that best smiley place so don't know what was wrong. She doesn't have windows so mayhaps?????

Anyway, I am running late as can be. Just wanted to report in so Shadow will count me among the up and about people.

Our plans are to go out tonight for a pre Valentines dinner for prime rib or perhaps fish. This place is very, very good but isn't open during the week so we can't go on Valentines day. Anyway I know I can stay on plan as I just order either cottage cheese or grilled veggies (yummie) instead of the potato and I don't eat the bread. I am always satisfied and filled when I eat at Anita's. So all should be well.
Will check in later with totals--gotta go get started drinking my water--that has been the hardest these past 2 days.

Byeee and have a great day everyone !! Especially you, Max, on your
Birthday. (Thanks for reminding us Missy)

... then leftover chicken cooked with mozarella & bacon for dinner .

Is there a recipe for this somewhere? Chicken left from what? Inquiring minds want to know.

Mitra
02-10-2007, 10:48 AM
No recipe, I'm afraid. If it works (and I can remember what I did) I can post it afterwards, if you like. We had roast chicken earlier in the week - the usual procedure is that we eat it freshly roasted with a side vegetable for one meal, then I use the rest of it up in something that's more of a concoction.

Good morning Everyone.

I woke up tired today. I guess I went to bed too late and didn't sleep in. I don't know about you, but I'm really bad at staying in bed after I wake up. It's weird... I feel like life is passing me by, so I get up. Whatever happened to those teenage years when you could sleep until noon?

I feel so good about my food and exercise plan today. Nothing fancy. Just my regular fare. It just feels good -- and safe -- to know that I have planned out my meals and they are here at home, so no surprises.

As for what I have planned today... I need to put a few hours of work in. But it's at home so that's fine. My partner is hellbent on getting to the card store so we can get Valentines and get them mailed, so I guess that's on my agenda. A visit up to treadie to do my 30 minutes is a for sure. And then... I don't know. I just want to be at home tonight to do whatever it is. It's one of those kind of days.

That's it from my neck of the woods. I hope everyone has a terrific day! :-)

I put my hand on my leg and thought...whoa..whos leg is that!??.. Working out past my percieved limits has begun so make a difference. I can't quite see it yet, but I sure can feel the muscle ridges developing.

Have a great day...

Already on my way to getting all my goals in. Just finished a nice relaxing 40 min of pilates, with a vanilla candle burning, no lights and DOOR SHUT with a DO NOT DISTURB sign up. lol That will also be my loving along with the fact that I totally slept in this morning. Hubby even brought me coffee in bed!
I am feeling less stressed today than I have for a few days now. Looking foward to hopefully finishing the season one disks of 24 today with neal. :)

The chicken thing worked pretty well. I'm not sure it's fancy enough to merit writing up as a recipe, though - it's the kind of thing you probably never do twice the same way. I cut the chicken into more or less 1" chunks, put them in a gratin dish, cut the mozzarella into 1/2" cubes, and spread it on top of the chicken, then a few halved green olives. Then I softened some chopped onion in olive oil, added a large clove of garlic, finely chopped, and a good handful of chopped parsley with a pinch of dried oregano and a chopped dried hot red pepper, seeds removed. Put that on top of the chicken and cheese, then lay a few slices of bacon on the top (I used smoked back bacon), grate some parmesan over it and grind on some black pepper. Bake it at 200ºC/400ºF for about 20 mins. We had broccoli with it, then fennel salad afterwards.

Good Afternoon, all,
Late in posting, since I spent the night at the hospital with my MIL and just got home.

Today, is a planned "honey tree" day as it is my 34th Wedding Anniversary!

We are going out to a symphony where my favorite conductor, Andrew Litton, (he just left our symphony to pursue other career choices) will be back as a guest.

Before it, we are going to a lovely restaurant in the symphony hall and I am making a choice to stay on plan, but I am having a very small piece of their Bread Pudding, which was written up in a local magazine as one of the best in the city. I will also probably have a glass of white wine to celebrate our anniversary.

Otherwise, I have been doing pretty well this month.

Tomarrow, will be back on plan.

Have a great weekend.

Happy Birthday, Max.

Shadow, today, Feb 10th, will have to be a NO.

Blue,

I was "odd" as a teen and am still odd now

I'd go to sleepovers and actually go to sleep at 10 (and wake up at 6). I'd be the one waking my friend's mother 'cos she was sleeping through HER alarm.
Now, I'm alot older and I LOVE to sleep in. It's best if I wake and don't look at the alarm clock. In fact, on week-ends, what I try and do is NOT open my eyes. Our room is dark, but not totally lightless, so I can see through my eye lids that is day, but as long as I don't look at the clock, I can stay in bed. Once I see it, even if it's only like 7, I'll be up within a couple of minutes.

Having a great day!

Love for myself - sleeping in.

Then, we headed to Trader Joe's. I was trying to find Dreamfield's Pasta, but couldn't. I don't know if our Trader Joe's is typical or atypical. Very small, crowded aisles, not as many products as I was expecting. I had been to another one, that was a little larger.
And the parking lot :peeved:

So, we decided to go to Whole Foods. There are a few around, but none really close and since we were out on the island already, we figured we'd go to that one, but couldn't remember what "streets" it was on. We have a navigational system our son gave us for Christmas and it has some restaurants in it and since we remembered it was right near a Benihana's, we found it that way.

Still didn't find Dreamfield's. Did buy a soybean pasta that is 11 ecc per serving, so, I'll try it but not yet. I'm still trying to get all my carbs from veggies and a few select fruits. (plus the ones in my coffee cream).

Didn't buy stevia, which now I wish I had. I thought the price was highway robbery (although nothing in WFM is cheap). But my daughter told me that one drop equals such a large amount of sweetener. I did want to try it in my cheesecake. It'll just have to wait :p

I did pick up a small package of Australian Jack cheese. I'm interested in tasting it - maybe on Monday.

Dh & I had a great time not buying anything, though.
We went from there to a Mexican restaurant for lunch, where I did NOT have a frozen margarita :D and did have a mixed fajita - chicken, steak, and shrimp. The chicken was okay, shrimp alright, steak delicious. Fajitas are great for me, 'cos I NEVER ate the tortillas. Just don't like them, so I always ordered fajitas even before PP as they are one of the few things that don't come already wrapped in tortillas;) .

So, now I'm having a second indulgence. Two cups of coffee and NOT cleaning my house or doing anythiing but watching a home show and being on the 'puter.

Forgot to add, did my "inside" exercising before dh came back from getting new tires and we walked together before coming home :D

so, I just have to stay on plan the rest of the day!

So, the plan for today was to keep it under 100G carbs, get all my protein, do 5K steps, take my weekend pills, get my water and for love, just enjoy my day.

How'd it play:
Protein is estimated at: 190G (large coming from my large rib eye steak for dinner, and what was left of wife's large rib eye steak)
Carbs are estimated at: 85G (most coming from an amazing pear crisp at an amazing restaurant)
Steps: I had 4500, then took it off for my formal, go out to dinner wear. definitely over 5000 though.
Pills: I have them portioned and will consume after this post.
Water: I tried a new protein bar today (thinkThin Chocolate Fudge). It was the worst thing I have ever eaten. But I drank 2L of water just to gag it down. Frankly, I am amazed at myself. Two months ago I would have pitched it.
Love: I did nearly nothing productive today (I did drop & pickup dry cleaning). I set up the wine fridge my wife got me for my birthday. I then went out and bought some wine (4 bottles) to make it look less empty. I would later go out to an amazing restaurant, eat a very on plan dinner (rib eye steak, asparagus, one taste of Parmesan potato cake thing), had a 7 ounce serving of a very big Austrian red wine (smart pair) and then said, I am a rock star, I have been on plan for 41 consecutive days and I am celebrating having lost nearly 10 lbs in those 41 days, so, Pear Ginger Crisp it is. going crustless in a restaurant where they have an on-staff pastry chef was a little nod in the PP direction, but, there were no illusions and no remorse. It was, phenomenal. I am, and hope to always be, a foodie and a gourmand, so, this was the capper on a very lazy, but lovey day.

So, if that lurker in the dark, Shadow asks, tell her:

YES

Agnes,

Dreamfields is not in either TJ's or Whole Wallet. They are usually in real grocery stores. You can go to their site and they have a map that will tell you which retailers in your state carry it. TJ's & WF's generally don't carry LC specialty stuff unless it's sold as No Sugar or it's naturally LC. I think it's a whole food/natural thing vs. engineered nutrition like DF.

Happy Anniversary Claudette. Amazing.

thanks, Max. Missy actually suggested I try looking on line and when I did, I found that they carry Dreamfield's in BOTH of the local grocery stores I shop at and a couple of others really close by that I avoid. I did manage to snag me a $1 off coupon, too ;)

I have a question for you, though, Max. They posted the nutrition label on-line and when I saw it, I realized I must have actually picked up Dreamfield's in the store, saw the carb "claim", then read the nutrition label and didn't trust the ECC count. How does it work???

Do you use the Dreamfield's sparingly? I mean, for 5 ECC, I could give it to dh every night, but he needs to watch his sugar.
Thanks!

Dreamfields is made with resistant starch and it does not raise my blood sugar, but I eat one serving at a time. Don't know what a whole plate would do, which is how I used to eat pasta. Just don't cook it with tomato sauce as I've heard that breaks down the starch and it will get digested. OK to put tomato sauce on top, apparently, just not cook in it.

Shadow -- for goals, yesterday 2/9 was YES, but today 2/10 is NO. No excuses, no whinging, just reality. Pits!

Thanks!

Both of our local (well, 2 of 3) carry it. The selection of shapes varies (usually they have one long shape, like spag or linguine or lasagne and one short shape, almost always penne... rarely the macaroni or the sprial guys which I think I like the best). The funny thing is, it's about $2.50 a box, but it's almost always on sale at 2/$4.

How it works? That's the billion dollar question. Part of it is that they use a dose of Inulin which is a fairly neutral tasting fiber. In fact, my current fiber supplement uses it. The other is a top secret, patent pending, process that binds the semolina to the inulin in such a way that most of it is rendered indigestible. If/when they get their patent, their claim will be able to be more thoroughly evaluated, from a process point of view.

Now, a caveat. I tolerate it VERY WELL. I can do a double serve and not have any adverse effects. I have heard that some people get a long rise in blood sugar from it. Not as big as real pasta, but it goes up and it stays up for a long time. Additionally, I found on their site one time a caution that basically said, your mileage may vary. So, if DH is monitoring BS, I dunno that I would buy 10 boxes and sing Hallelujah. I might buy one and see how he/I tolerate it before trying to buy stock.

I did see them featured on that show on the food network where they narrate processed food factory footage. Unwrapped I think it is. It looks just like a pasta plant, except for the one, ominous, secret machine where they treat the raw material.

Last thing: They also suggest not doing the following: Cook the pasta up, then toss, over heat, for some time, with a tomato sauce. They suggest that heating with acids (if I recall) breaks down the ties that bind the carbs up. They suggest, if you want this type of thing, cook the pasta up, cook the sauce up, and mix at the table, off heat.

Forgot, there was another question: I make an effort not to eat it on consecutive days. Sometimes, I don't have it in any given week. Sometimes I will have 4-5 serves a week. I make a couple of really amazing, full box recipes that I can portion out, and sometimes, it's just very easy to make that a dinner and then 3-4 lunches during the week. The only time I get in trouble, imho, with it, is on the calorie side. If you think about it, my mac and cheese that I posted before has the pasta, a stick of butter, a large quantity of 40% fat cream, some eggs, and a large large large quantity of full fat cheeses. A double serve might be 900 cals. But, we are LC, and shouldn't worry about that ;) I don't. And I don't have problems with it. It's more a "WOW, that's a big fitday number."

Max,

thanks a lot!

That's kind of where I was heading in my thinking - check out the "mileage" before going "hog wild" with it.

I find I don't really miss the pasta, but dh definitely does.

We have that one box of soy bean pasta I did buy and when I next go to the grocery store I'll pick up the Dreamfield's, but I'm not going to run out today and pick it up.

Thanks for a much more thorough explanation than I got off of their web site !

Anniesnan said: It's best if I wake and don't look at the alarm clock. In fact, on week-ends, what I try and do is NOT open my eyes. Our room is dark, but not totally lightless, so I can see through my eye lids that is day, but as long as I don't look at the clock, I can stay in bed.

Hi Anniesnan,

I'm so jealous you can sleep in! But I'll try your trick tomorrow morning. Good thing I checked in tonight and found your message. :-)

Thanks!

Blue

Hi, Blue!

It worked okay today, until neighbor's parents arrived early this morning and we could hear good morning's and car doors - our streets are VERY narrow. Stayed in bed another bit, fell asleep again, and woke up to
9 AM. Not what I had in mind

Dreamfields is made with resistant starch and it does not raise my blood sugar, but I eat one serving at a time. Don't know what a whole plate would do, which is how I used to eat pasta. Just don't cook it with tomato sauce as I've heard that breaks down the starch and it will get digested. OK to put tomato sauce on top, apparently, just not cook in it.

thanks for the info! When I saw that about not cooking it in tomato sauce, I'm thinking, who cooks it in tomato sauce, then, DUH, baked ziti, baked rigatoni, lasagna...

I wonder how the lasagne ones, but with an alfredo sauce and veggies would work?

Well, I'll try the basic ones, add the sauce on top and see how the 'mileage" goes for dh & myself.

Thanks!

Wow, you are all rocking!!!

Joanne - I am sooooo happy to see you :D!!! And way to go on that successful day !

Missy - It's your choice :). If you want to take it as your planned honey day, that's just fine by me. But only YOU can determine if that means you're going to NOT indulge on whatever day you originally planned ;).

Blue - I have Friday and Saturday - but don't have a report for Thursday :).

If I recall correctly, the specific warning is about pan saute in tomato sauce. They post recipes for baked pasta dishes with the pasta. I don't know if that's an endorsement, but if you couldn't make a traditional lasagna, why bother making lasagna noodles.

At my office, the lunch staff will have a pasta station about 4 days a week. They will take pasta, veggies and tomato sauce and toss in a fry pan over some heat. This is, IIRC, the practice DF's warns against.

I made an Alfredo style lasagna. Sort of. I made something like my mac and cheese recipe, added some chicken and prosciutto, and used parm in place of cheddar. It was okay.

Also, a full pan lasagna calls for 12 oz of pasta. It comes in a 16 oz box. This is a different version of the Hot Dog/Bun 8/10 pack dilemma. I took the other 4 oz, and cut them up into strips. And made a bowtie worthy sauce. Worked okay. Not great.

I am curious to know how you enjoy the soy pasta. I will never buy it again, but then again, I like the DF's.

Protected carbohydrates or "resistant starch": These are carbohydrates that resist being digested particularly in the small intestine. When they cannot be digested in the small intestine, they pass to the colon where they perform as dietary fiber. They may occur naturally, be created by chemically modifying carbohydrates prior to ingestion or achieve resistance through properly formulated foods being processed by the body. Resistant starches occur naturally at various levels in many foods, like cooked and cooled potatoes, unmilled grains, seeds, legumes, bananas, and high amylase starches. Most resistant starches are produced by concentrating naturally resistant starches and/or by chemically modifying carbohydrates in order to produce a starch with low digestibility. Dreamfields creates protected carbohydrates without chemical modification by utilizing combinations of standard food ingredients to "protect" digestible carbohydrates from being broken down by digestive enzymes. Carbohydrates resistant to digestion have been shown in scientific study to help control blood glucose, blood cholesterol and blood triglyceride levels, normalize insulin levels, and help improve the health of the colon lining, thus reducing the potential for ulcers and inflammatory diseases of the large intestine.

That's at:
http://www.dreamfieldsfoods.com/diet-information.html#term0015

So, Fiber is a resistant starch. So are chemically altered carbs. And some are made by secret, patent pending process.

As with everything, mileage varies. Some folks (me) find them pretty non-digestible. Some folks (a diabetic lady I know on another group) see very long rises in BG reading. They don't raise as high as straight semolina durum pasta, but they stay up long. Again, mileage varies, and at no point is DF meant to be a daily use product. I think you could, but I didn't eat that much pasta when I was eating Barilla.

I wonder if anyone here with a BG monitor (Michelle?) has tried DFs.

AMY,

Sounds like you really need to rest. Hope you follow through on your plan to chill tomorrow. It will restore you for the coming week. And you just might have time to watch something good on tv. Provided there IS something good to see. :-)

Blue

Sleep...rest...sounds great!!
Wish I had the skills to DO it!!
