As we leap into he February challenge how about an honest evaluation of January, how did you do? Did you achieve your goals? Did you give it a full 31 days of effort?

I will weigh and measure tomorrow and post mine, but I did jump on the scale and had lost 1 lb this month. At one time I was down 3 but nothing stayed gone for too long so I will do the officially weigh and measure tomorrow. On my + part of the challenge, started out the first 18 days great with 8 exercise sessions in that time, the last 12 days however I have only gotten in 1 session. So on my + challenge I will only be at 75% of goal. And no excuses or whining from me, just kicking myself!

Billie.....don't kick yourself...all you'll get is hurt. If life were perfect...If we were perfect....we wouldn't be here and wouldn't need this. If the only + things for you in the entire month of January are a 1 pound loss and 9 exercise sessions. Guess what.....THEY'RE ++++++++++.
How many of those would you have if you hadn't even tried?

Looking forward to everyones + over the next couple of days.

Hey! Not excellent results this time...:crybaby:
I have taken my protein everyday, as well as my supplements... However, I haven't drunk my minimum intake of water every day... in fact, I have just reached the 1.5 litres on average... About exercise... mm... very bad:thumbsdown:  Walking a lot, but not my cardio/resistance routines...
And finally, my +1: done... I finished the rereading of my PP book yesterday.:)

If we talk about weight and measurements... I went onto the scale yesterday, and I saw I have lost 1.7 kg. I'll weigh myself again tomorrow and I'll take my measurements, that I haven't taken yet...

Sorry... not very positive today...:(

Hi, tonight I will weigh myself and measure.

I think the scale will show a loss, but I am disappointed in myself that I didn't get in the 1+ exercise I had planned for the month. In fact, the last two weeks, I haven't exercised at all.

So, part of my "loving" myself will be to not dwell on it and just move on into February.

HERE THE January stats: I am pleased. Glad I refigured my LBM, etc.

6.2 lbs excused

Inches lost: down 1/2" bust, 1/4' waist, 1/4" hips, abd stayed the same.

I can get into a size smaller pants/jeans, still feels alittle tight, but I can button them and breathe!

Hugs,
Claudette

I'll weigh and measure tomorrow to close out January.

I did well with my +1 - which was to try new recipes. The new recipes were:
Spaghetti squash lasagna (YUMMY!)
Filet mignon (first time I've made it)
New things with green beans (making them with bacon and shallots, etc)
New ways to bake chicken
And I have another spaghetti squash recipe I'll be trying tomorrow night to end the month

I did not exercise as much as I had hoped, but I exercised more than I have in a long, long time. I also overcame whatever irrational fear/anxiety it was that kept me from walking in my neighborhood. DH and I put together a home gym in the garage - complete with tv, dvd/vcr, my entire collection of workout videos and dvds, dumbells, barbell and associated weights, and our new weight bench. This will make working out in February that much easier.

I did not make my water goal every day, but I did maintain my focus on water and chose it over other beverages most of the time.

My eating was not perfect, but it's getting better. I'm planning to really focus on cleaning it up as we approach the start of the February challenge.

My scale went haywire (apparently the week I spent away from it wasn't good for it - it never worked again!) :) I purchased a new scale, but since I can't compare it to my old one I won't be very sure of how much weight I have lost. I'm thinking 10-12 pounds.

I can tell that I have lost weight in my face and stomach. My skin looks great, and I have more energy and focus.

I've also noticed that I'm a lot more positive lately. Not that I'm a negative person, but lately it just seems I'm much more positive and optimistic. I'm not sure if it's because I feel better, or because I check in with all of you every day, or because I spend so much time visualizing and thinking about all the great changes. Whatever the reason, I'll take it!

I'll check in tomorrow with those measurements. I'm looking forward to seeing how successful everyone has been!

End of January...ALREADY! YES!!!...not that I'm wishing away my year...it's just that January, Feburary, and March just seem like months to endure for me.

I don't have ANY weight loss to claim...only because the number I saw (thanks to MAX :D ;) ) didn't STICK permanently...but then again, it's water retention time of the month for me, SO? I feel that certainly there is a "loss" there...just hiding for me. So, no big deal. ~ but nothing I can "claim".

I have to be losing inches though. I feel THAT all over the place.

I tried new recipes this past month, and that's always fun. I'm getting my list of special ingredients together so I can get them ordered so I can try some more!

I'm very pleased with my production of next years inventory too!

In all, I'm very happy about my determination to stick to the plan and feel the difference it's making. Slow, yes, but sure.

I went back to the original January Challenge message from Billie and here's my results from the list she provided.

I KNEW I didn't drink enough water, but having it as one of my +1 goals made me start to track it. I learned that I CAN get enough water during the week-easy-but I struggle on the weekends, so I know where to focus.

I TRIED to get in my exercise, but the pneumonia kind of screwed that up. I like to exercise, so that is not usually a problem for me. I'm good at 3x a week strength with some (15 min) cardio thrown in. That's good enough for me. I have gotten pretty darn good at wearing my pedometer this month and getting out there for walks so I can get my "steps" in every day.

My carb counts are good, but I'm not very good at counting my protein. However my body craves it when I haven't gotten enough, so I feel good about just trusting my body to notify me when if I'm running low.

Recipes? I love trying new recipes. Having the time has been hard this month with being sice for 2+weeks, but I know NORMALLY I don't struggle with this.

I love my veggies and fruit...got those in daily.

And...although I weighed ONE day this month after I got my PP workbook, I have not been granted the scale from my "scale hider". Once I'm given my scale back, I'll weigh and measure and see if I have had any physical successes!!

Overall, I think it's been a GREAT month! (therefore showing my "positive energy approach")

I'm posting a day early because tomorrow I work all day and do not have access to a computer,, and have a meeting immediately afterward and will not be home till late . I am getting up earlier than I normally do to work out before I go to work.. Gotta get that lower body workout in first before I meet Atilla the Hun.
I lost ...(wrote it down somewhere here) One inch in my hips ,2 in my waist,2 in my chest and back,1 in my neck and 5 pounds total.:D
Doesn't seem like a whole lot to me but the two in my waist is what I have been working for. Nothing changed in my legs or arms except that they got harder.Works for me. This challenge was good for me. Thank you all of you who supported each other.:D We are cool together.:D What a team!!!:D As Max would say...ROCK ON!!

Oh yeah.. I met my food goals every day (even at quilt camp) and I missed one day of excersize because of a headache. ( I have one today but I'm excersizing through the pain. ) I filled up my bottles of water and drank them till they were gone every day so I made that one too. Some times I drank more than I planned because working out keeps me thirsty all day.
Oh yeah..my plus one was vegetables for carbs...yes..ate alot of them
Last nights venison vegetable soup was very much comfort food.

I suppose it's never to early:

I wrote it like this:

Pro: 125+, CHO: <40, H2O: 2L+, Pills: Yes, Exer: 3 Resist, 1 cardio, 5*10K step days, 2*5K steps, + 5-6, +Ita, +24/7/31, & B+

I did make my protein 30 days so far.

I did not exceed 40G of carbs on any day so far.

I met water of 2+L/day on 29 days so far, missed one but got non-water fluids.

Pills: It has been a bit of an adventure. I did not miss my thyroid, multi, ALA/CLA pills all month. I did not miss my first dose of ADHD either. I have missed a lot of second dose. I have also fought with the fiber pill (timing between thyroid and meals is difficult), and the EFA (I get it when I post at night, unless I don't post at night :-(

Exercise: Well, I met the goal. I exceeded the goal. I exceeded the goal beyond my wildest dreams. I missed one patterned resistance session (due to MLK day), but did something different and resistancy at home. I missed 0 abs sessions, even though these are very hard and can lead to discomfort. I WAY exceeded my Sprint Interval commitment. And I missed my steps on one day, this past weekend, and it was miserable out (bad excuse, but it happened).

Plus:
I ate 5 meals or more on 29 of 30 days so far. I had four on the other day. This is HARD on the weekends, especially if you sleep in. My thought on that is, if I sleep in, I will make up the protein and carbs, but not the meal. I think this is best.

Italian was a mixed bag. I managed 8 lessons before my Ipod broke. Since it was a commitment to doing it while commuting, the iPod was a necessary piece of the equation. I had missed one prior, and feel bad about it. On the upside, Ipod is getting fixed this week, in fact, I should have it back by Friday.

Positivity was a struggle. I had one day where I was really miserable. I don't know that you can control it. I should have written it as "Make an Effort to Be Positive". I still would have missed one day, but I think it would be a more controllable goal.

I was good and clean on every day. I averaged 97% compliance with my goals through the month (not including the failed Italian). I can skunk this today or tomorrow, but I think we can bank it.

Lastly, although I have one more weighing opportunity, I moved from 232 (the lowest I had seen prior to Jan 1) to 226! 6 lbs.
Update: Measurement Changes: Wrist is thinner (weird), hips down 1.5", and neck down .5". I knew this, as I can comfortably wear my 17" collar shirts, whereas I was wearing 18.5" when I started and 17.5" over X-mas.

I will measure tonight and hopefully be able to break this into fat and muscle movement. I'm hoping that it's more like 8 lbs of fat. So, measurements tonight, and a weight adjustment tomorrow AM if necessary.

Update: With changes in measurements, this is a bit of a mixed bag: Dropped ~ 2% BF (good) but maybe 2 lbs of LBM. I was hoping for gains, but this workout was not as hard as the one I was doing in December. The ones I am doing now have the potential to be very hard, but when I think about it, I need to clarify my goals a little. Work will be done on this, and adjustments made.

At any rate, it was a pretty successful month. I owe it to all of you, especially the people who post every day, Billie for setting it up, Bugzita for needing some help when I needed to give it, etc. I also need to thank my two masters, for not really caring about my comings and goings, allowing me to log a lot of time at the gym.

On my + part of the challenge, started out the first 18 days great with 8 exercise sessions in that time, the last 12 days however I have only gotten in 1 session. So on my + challenge I will only be at 75% of goal. And no excuses or whining from me, just kicking myself!
Don't worry 'bout it Billie - I'll be kicking your bootie enough next month for the both of us :D  !

Congrats on all the success everyone!

As I mentioned in my other post, I'm not sure how much weight I have lost due to a scale malfunction, but I know I have lost weight.

As far as measurements - I measured a lot of places, and lost everywhere except one arm and one thigh. :p Here are the highlights:

Neck: -.5"
Chest: -1"
Abdomen: -2" (I'm throwing a little party inside just for this!!!)
Hips: -1"

And my left ankle, which has been swollen for 8 years (due to a severe break and 2 surgeries): my left ankle is one inch smaller this morning! I know this is due to fluid/less weight on the ankle, but it makes me so happy. That big ankle is what stands (no pun intended) between me and most of my boots! :D

Counting all the places I measured, I lost 7.5 inches!!!

I am very pleased with these results, and looking forward to more great results in February!

Stephie, that's GRRRRREEEEAAAAATTTTT!!!
How wonderful!! Congratulations!!!!

I will weigh tomorrow, but I quickLY measured my waist, I lost 1/2inch. I'm good with that!! I will do a full measurement tomorrow when I get my scale back.
It's hard lately to measure my hips because I still get swollen from the surgery, so it will vary up/down by as much as an inch for any given reason. The Dr said it could be another six-12 months of intermittent swelling in that area before it "should" calm down...doesn't bother me, doesn't really affect my clothing, no pain (no feeling really) so as long as I realize that if I have that dramatic change there then it may be because of swelling.

Anyway, I'll report tomorrow.

Well, I might as well post my results today for January. As I recall, at the end of December, I was up 1 lb. after the holiday indulgences. As of today, I have lost that pound plus 2 more. I'm very happy with the results! :)

As far as the exercise, I could have done a little better there. I sort of slipped on the resistance, but got a new toy to help in that department (the Core Sculptor), so I had some new moves. The cardio was on target though! :)

Water consumption was good, protein consumption was great (my plus 1), and carbs were under my goal for most days. I never worry about the supps, because they are taken first thing every morning, even before I drink my coffee!

This board has been my mainstay through all of it, and my thanks go out to all of you wonderful, supportive people for seeing me through it! :)

On to February!

In the January Challenge (http://proteinpower.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2021)I committed to
Protein: 135 grams
Carbs: 40 ECC, no more than 10/meal  (went over twice)
Supplements: (yes) (missed most days - likely why I have this cold)
Exercise: 3 * 45 Strength training and 1 Aerobics workout/week  (Off sick a few days but got the rest in)
Water: min. 64 oz./day  (Way off of this one)
Action Item: Meeting & Reporting daily protein requirement and Carb limit all 31 days   (Reported every day but missed reporting full numbers several days)

Results: Better prepared for February with Supps and water needing more attention. Down 2 pounds in January after losing the extra pounds from Christmas. I expect great things for February.:)

Stephie, how neat that you and your hubby have fixed up your garage so you can exercise out there. It really sounds like it would be super. Hmmmm. now I'm wondering if I could persuade my dh to help me fix up one of our basement rooms.  They are currently a collection of junk and they really bug me. An exercise room would be great and I have a little tv to put down there. Ok, Steph, since this is going to involve a lot of work, I won't mention your name or anything when I bring it up to my hubby. :paranoid:
I don't know my results for Jan. yet, will have to wait til tomorrow, as I am not about to weigh myself in the evening. ;) (I will do this as soon as I get up, before breakfast, heck before even a drink of water.)

I have to admit to being very pleased with my results for the month! I lost 8 pounds, 1.5 inches off my waist, 1.3 inches off my hips, lowered my body fat by 2.28%, increased my lean body weight by .6 pounds. Makes me a happy woman :D!!!

I missed my supplements once, missed my fluids count three days, and failed at any sort of exericise about 8 days  . The exercise number is a guesstimate because looking back at my log book, I've discovered have to be more clear in my entries :( . I was good on meeting my minimum protein count and staying below 30 for my ECC.

I'm looking forward to see what I can accomplish in February!

January - the start of 2007 - I guess I could define it as slow but steady...

I didn't lose much weight - 2.8 lbs for the month (and I'd be happier if I had stayed off the scale, wouldn't know that at one point I was down 2 more lbs:(

inches wise, much happier

I lost inches everywhere neck 1
left arm 2
right arm 1 3/4
bust 1 1/2
"under" bust 6
waist 4 1/2
hips 2 1/2
left thigh 1 3/4
right thigh 1 3/4
left calf 1 1/2
right calf 2
left ankle 1/4
right ankle 1/4
left wrist 1 3/4
right wrist 3/4

so, here's to February!

Okay, have spent the morning with my scale, tape measure, spread sheet and calculator :) Results are good.

I am down 6 pounds for the month.

Side note on this, it was actually more at one point (which I never would've seen had I not been weighing EVERY day), but I had my slight increase that I always get and it's on it's way back down again. The "for the month" is based on 1/1 to 2/1 not anything in between. ;)

The Tanita says I've gained fat %, but I long ago determined that it's not reliable. The hips/abs chart thing calculates as a 1.93% reduction of bodyfat (6.3 pounds - so I gained .3 LBM).

Since October 1: 23.5 pounds lost (24.28 fat) and my BF % has dropped by 6.83% :D

I only measure 7 spots (and not even left/right just left side of things) so for the month I'm down 4.75 inches (14.75 since 10/1). The highlights there would include: 1.25 inches off my left thigh :D .5 inch each off hips and abs. The only number that didn't move was my neck.

As for my goals:

Protein: met every day, usually not a problem for me. I have noticed though that my intake has decreased since I started working. I've been squeaking by most days instead of being 20-30 grams (or more) over.

Carbs: 2 days not met. :( One was planned, although I didn't stick to the "only lunch" plan.

Supplements: 4 days of not taking everything, 3 of those I took the morning batch, just didn't get the evenings, 1 day I took nothing.

Water: 4 days where I didn't get at least 112 ounces, 3 of those were 110 (which is my new calculated amount) and the other day I barely had anything to drink at all. Again, work has really had an impact on my water consumption.

Exercise and my +1: I was aiming for 4 each of ball, resistance and cardio. I got in 6 ball, 4 resistance and 4 cardio (barely). The past 2 weeks have been great, but I really should've started sooner. I put off everything until the ball was good to go and I should NOT have done that.

All in all I'm happy with my month.

My DDs were telling me yesterday how proud they are of me that I have stuck to this since October - 4 months and counting!

Despite not getting exercise consistently and some sloppy carb counting, I lost 8 pounds, 3 inches off the waist and 2 inches off the hips!

With more exercise and better control of the diet, what can I accomplish in February?

Wow!! How inspiring reading everyone's accomplishments!! Amazing!!:D

I finally got my scale back today.
Now for those who didn't read earlier, I hadn't weighed since pre-Thanksgiving (212lbs) and allowed my self "free eating" through the holidays. My favorite "between meal snack" was chex party mix, which I inhaled at an unbelievable rate.
I started following PP (again) on December 27th.
In mid January I received a new copy of my old PP workbook and weighed and measured (204lbs). Since I didn't measure when I weight pre-thanksgiving, I didn't have anything to compare it to.

I weighed and measured (my waist only) this am.
I am now at 202.5-so total loss 9.5lbs, (total 117.5 loss since starting PP in 1998) and since mid January, I have lost 1/2 inch in my waist. :D

I am now keeping my scale. I KNOW the progress will be slow, but I know I'm on the right track  and that's what matters!!

Borrowing somebody else's words... despite not having done any structured resistance exercise this month, I still manage to lose a couple extra pounds and half an inch in my waist. The changes are not enough to make a significant change in body fat, though after I measure more sites that may change a little. No fretting about it, though. This month was particularly hard for many reasons. However, with the new job (and a new challenge), my schedule is going to be more 'predictable' and I just found out that the College has its own gym. So, hopefully there will be a discount for faculty (if not free... I love free!;) )

I met my +1, reading 3 articles, though I regret that I did not have the time to structure a post on them, so that is still pending. I also tried a couple new recipes for chicken; nothing too strange but turned out very good! On the barista side, I did tried a few things that Billie now loves!!! Okay, that last part wasn't part of the January challenge but I had fun!

Now, YOU people are amazing!!! If you could find your post where you wrote your results back in October, compare that to what you're posting now! Even though some did not lose a lot of weight (which by the way should not be the bulk of the effort), the attitude in your posts has changed so much!!! I'd say that's a big plus for all of you and is what this is all about! Better attitude brings up better disposition and better overall results along the way. So, pat yourselves on the shoulder and give a kiss or a hug to your supporting group, whoever they are.

I'm very proud of all of you and let's keep challenging ourselves!!!

Wow, Michelle, way to go. What a milestone for you. You've done a lot of hard work and it shows. So glad for you.:o :o
There were lots of other good reports too and it's because we all dug in and did our best. It doesn't have to be weight that is the "be all" of our success either, there are just too many other ways we have changed our lives. Like Doc said about the change in attitudes he has noticed since last October.

Yippee. I lost 8 pounds and 1 3/4 inches in my waist and 1 in my hips. Those are the only 2 spots I measured on Jan. 1st. , but I have since measured thighs and bust so I will have a clearer picture next month.

More important for my January results though are the increased energy, the feel good about myself feeling (cuz I know I am taking charge and doing something for myself) , and my blood pressure is doing very well this month. Just having the more energy to do the things I want to is so great; it's a reward all in itself. I keep asking myself how I let myself become such a couch potato but I guess it is one of those things that just slip up on you when you're not looking.

I didn't go back through my journal to see my numbers on compliance , I know that my goals were met most times, but were not perfect by any means. I did not visit the honey tree at any time in January, but when I ate at the chinese restaurant I am sure I went over the carb limit since I didn't know how the dishes were prepared. :paranoid: :paranoid:

I have decided to be good to myself and put my scale back in the basement. I found out in Jan. that I can live with out the thing. Billie has been right all this time- - not having that thing around has been liberating and then when it was actually time to find out my results I had something to look forward to. So good bye--so long--hasta la vista my old, old friend. See you March 1st.

Yeah, what SHE said, Michelle! (Sherry says it so much better than I do!)

I've had an extraordinary January, as I've said before. I gained a pound this month, but ONLY a pound, unlike other Januaries. My belt has not moved (either direction) so I'm content. It's been a stressful month.

Wow, 103 looks fantastic in print.

I wished I lived near you, as we could have a fabulous party.(PP friendly, of course).

You are truly an inspiration to me and I know everyone on the board.

When I become discouraged, I have only to read one of your post and say to myself, "just suck it up and get back to it, no excuses".

Way to go!

Everyone has done so great this month! Way to go!

I ended up sloughing off this month so did not lose any weight. But I have increased my consumption of veggies, and increased the amount of exercise. I plan on using February to get my ECCs under control as I've gotten too sloppy in counting correctly. But all in all, I'm a whole lot better off at the beginning of this year than I was last.

Just checking in, to say that I'm not reporting any results for the month, since I was eating off-plan for about half the month.

I am planning to be on-plan for February!

This has been my slowest month but weight loss seems to be picking up again. I fluctuated between 188 and 190 for most of the month until the last week of January and now I am down 4.5 lbs. I need to put a ticker in my signature because since November I am down a whopping 24.5 lbs and have gone from size XXXL to an 18 and even some size sixteens.

My gosh, it has seemed so slow but it totally is NOT!! take care, grandma moe

Thanks Missy, I laughed too. Your comment reminded me of when my son was in the pinewood derby and the wheel came off of his car during the race. They gave him an award for "showmanship". Probably because he did not die of embarassment on the spot. He was only eight years old but even he could see they tried really hard to figure out an award they could give him. When he went up to get his award he asked them if they actually ment SSSSSLLOOOOWWW-MANSHIP. Poor kid. The next year we did better. We still came in dead last, but at least we crossed the finish line with all our parts.

It's amazing what keeping track does to one's reality. I was actually discouraged and then this week came along and whoosh.

OK HELP. why does this only show the URL and not the ticker? Anyone?

LOL Missy, so how do you like being married to a moron? No wonder you are soooo witty. This actually was not my grandson with the humor, it was my own kid. We almost named him Micah but decided not to because everytime someone said "that's for Micah" we were afraid he would think he was a counter top. And this kid-------would have.
