View Full Version : January 24th Day of Challenge

Morning all! I can't believe I'm the first one posting today.

Thought I would share something this morning, those of you that read my journal have seen these messages before, but I thought I'd throw this one into the challenge thread for today

I WILL USE WORDS WHICH EMANATE POWER, STRONG WORDS TO GUIDE ME

My words today will be strong and powerful. I will choose words that convey a sense of mastery, competence, and ability: I can. I will. I am. I do ....

I will not limit myself by using words that convey indecision and weakness. I will avoid saying: "I can't." "It's impossible." "No way...." "I'm not smart enough." "I give up."

Today I'm on the lookout for self-defeating messages sent from me ... to myself, welling forth from my inner self in a stream of negative chatter. Today I will end the negative chatter. I see that I can change negative thoughts into positive ones as I am able make changes within myself. I can choose words of power to help create a new perspective on life, and a new perspective on myself.

I know there are times when so many of us get discouraged with our progress (or lack thereof) and I thought this message would help.

"You are what you think" in so many ways so keep the positive thoughts flowing! Something I would do well to remember myself.

As I'm always saying...

THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS TODAY!

Good Morning Becca and Gaelen.....nice to see others up early as well....
Good Morning Billie, I know you're probably right behind me.....

Dare I say it?......Another Excellent day ahead today. I am truly on a roll this month. With the exception of the little "blip" I had last week with the....shhhh "scale" issue, and being sick.....things have been going extremely well

Becca.....great way to start the day.

:) I can
:o I will
:) I am, and
:o I do

Everyday....Trying to maintain the momentum into "my" PMS phase, so hopefully there won't be problems. Unless there is a :eek:Catastrophe:eek: in the last 8 days of the month, I anticipate January to be my best month on plan since....ever......

Blood Sugars running a little high the last couple of days, but I am unconcerned since I know it's not my eating that is affecting the. Still on the Antibiotics of the respiratory crap, so that will be at least part of it.

Cardio Bands again this morning to Air Force One, shooting for 10000 steps today, only got in 8800 yesterday (shy of the goal). Planning my food for the day, as we speak.

Great Day to all,
Michelle

"I WILL USE WORDS WHICH EMANATE POWER, STRONG WORDS TO GUIDE ME

My words today will be strong and powerful. I will choose words that convey a sense of mastery, competence, and ability: I can. I will. I am. I do ...."

Love it! Although still a little under the weather (abs and joints still ache from the remnents of this flu) I will get some little things done that I have been putting off and return to work tomorrow. Somewhere today I will fit in two Zombie flicks.

This past Fall I used words that were "strong and powerful" :peeved: to assess the current management policy. Some of them were words that I have not used in years, but the only ones that seemed to do justice to what was happening within our group. It led to the next two levels of management, getting a new supervisor, and the halting of a punative process that was happening far too often to the entire group with no benefit to either side.
The cost: Moving outside my comfort zone.
The benefit: Our group is tighter than it ever was and I feel better having stated my case.

It is most often true that the "Squeaky wheel gets the grease." I don't like doing it but the words/actions do empower and often cause change. Confidence increases and it is like getting a new view into what you are doing.

Today will be soft foods, likely a shake and a pudding, both loaded with protein along with some frozen berries.

Note: I saw this last night and wanted to pass it on.
This piece of Beauty (http://www.astrosurf.com/sguisard/SGU-Paranal-Voie-lactee-V4-720x576-mus-ok-en.avi) from high on a mountaintop in Chile, covers a full night of Earth's horizon starfield from that location.
The page that it comes from offers a new atronomy related picture daily from this link (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html).

Becca, Gaelen and Michelle Good morning--and to those who follow as well!

Since we are off to a good start with Becca's quote and Michelle's can do attitude, I won't post another thought of the day--plenty to think about with our attitudes and spirits right there. But I will remind everyone today is the 24th and we have one week left on the challenge so lets make is a great 7 days!

As well I would encourage you to take to the time today to PM or email just one person, cheer them on their way, wish them well, tell them you are thinking of them, tell them they can do this, tell them they are worth it, nothing like reaching out to someone to help yourself!

Check in later!

Good morning all. We've been promised sun today, and I hope it materializes. I don't mind a few days of cloudy weather if it produces much needed rain, but we're going on 10 days with the sun poking through only a couple of times. I NEED THE SUN!!! How's that for strong words?

Have a great day everyone.

Happy Wednesday.

I should add that I am grateful that I only have 22 working days left in this abysmal office, and I'm thinking of taking a sick day on at least one of them.

Scale moved today. Happy about that. I wish I could get more emotionally invested in the scale, as it would probably help my mood a bit.

Workout was insanely crowded, but I got it done. Abs and Strength. Abs were what the abs were, a little backward progress in the Bridge (just tired), but better performance on the Standing Crunch (new weight high) and Back Extension (new rep high). Then, the strength circuit. New highs on Incline Bench Press (new weight), dumbbell row (new weight), and Uneven Step Squat (new weight). I will be sore tomorrow. Definitely.

I will see you all later.

Hi, I'm back.
The "stuff " that hit me Sunday turned into fever, bronchitis (hadn't had that in years), sinutitis, so I have layed low at home with the humidfier, lots of water, really lc and no salt since the steroid burst plus antibiotic my doc gave me would have me looking like a toad if I added any salt.

I am back at work today, but taking it slow.

To the other sickies, get to feeling better soon.

Great thoughts to think on.

Re-figured my LBM and protein requirements from orginal PP book.
Also, re-read the chapter under Insulin Resistance in the PPLP book which talks about small folks sometimes need to back off on calorie dense items, cheese, nuts or their body will have all it needs from incoming fat and won't release stored fat.

Maybe, I've just found why I'm plateaued.

Good MORNING all...
Slept like a BABY last night, which is great, since this is the second night I have been forced to sleep in the Snuggler instead of bed (I LOVE MY SNUGGLER-recliner that's a little smaller than a loveseat-hence if forces two people to 'snuggle' when sitting in it)

Last night, although I left work thinking about MANY forms of fast food, ended up stopping at a grocery store and picking up a Rotisserie Chicken. I had been craving it and did NOT feel like cooking. Called home and ordered a yummy lettuce salad be prepared, and we ate by candlelight. I ended up not needing a snack last night-the chicken was YUMMY.

My cold has settled deep into my head, so I'm breathing today, but it's almost midday for me, and I always feel best midday.

Using my words...LOVE the idea and it's something I have recently learned is something I CAN do as I have gained more self-confidence in the last years. Course I won't be using them TODAY. BOTH my bosses are gone, and the software techies I work with DON'T TALK...they have their headphones on and never leave their desks...Me, being Miss social, goes crazy on days like this...it's SO QUIET!

This afternoon I go back for a final check on the last plastic surgery I had to remove excess skin. I'm happy with it-except for one little section. There is a spot I feel he "missed" so I'm going to ASSERT myself and let him know he needs to fix it. I'm not one of those people who feels I should look PERFECT after surgery, but this particular area I wanted him to fix, and he...I don't know...'missed' it. I mentioned it right before I went it to surgery, and mentioned it was still there after the surgery and he said I had to wait 6 months for the swelling to go down before anything was decided. We'll it's been six months and NO change...so I may have one more little "touch up" surgery - what I have to be strong about is that it should COST me anything...we'll see what happens.

Have a GREAT day everyone!!

Good morning to you!

'Becca, what a great way to start the day by reading your post! I love the word "power", for many reasons, but mainly because it's part of my last name. ;) We have the power to control our actions and thoughts about this WOL. More power to us! :)

Oh, my, we have so many folks under the weather. My sympathies to you all, and I hope your symptoms GO AWAY!

I have already walked this morning, and it's time for another resistance session too. My eating has been on the money this week, so I am looking forward to a good "scale" report before the end of Jan. (is it really just another week?? ). I'm looking forward to the Feb. challenge. :)

Where's Missy?

Have a great hump day!

I hate my ab workout. I have a dvd of a guy who has incredible abs. I guess if I want them...I have to pay the price. Someday it will get easier.
My legs are getting harder in the thigh area. I really noticed it this morning. My arms feel like I stole someones and replaced mine. I did an upper body workout today. My chest is still shaking. Working out with weights definately changes your body shape. I am starting to see the line around the top of my abs..finially. Now when I sit up and don't have to use my arms to push my body up. It surprises me evey time.
Keep working out...don't ever stop...
Half the failures in life arise from pulling in ones horse as he is leaping.
Changes will happen..I can ..I will... I do...

Reading the Shaolin Workout by Sifu Shi Yan Ming, who is a fascinating person, an HTG Shaloin Monk who defected to the US, opened a temple in New York, trains celebs and has what I think is my ideal body (except that I am a good 6 inches taller than Sifu Shi Yan Ming). Any rate, I have this on loan for a few days, so I thought I would read it and make a purchase decision. Might be a keeper, but I haven't gotten into the workout yet.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e248/maxlharris/SifuShiYanMing.jpg

Anyrate, book opens with a SSYM quote, and I thought I might share.

Before I was born, Who was I?
After I am born, who am I?
Respect Yourself, everybody will respect you.
Understand yourself, everybody will understand you.
There are mirrors all around you,
strive to see and understand yourself.
Strive to have the heart of a Buddha
Stop doing bad things, only do good.
Do whatever you can to help others.
In these ways you help yourself.
Help yourself, and you help the world.

I am not a Buddhist, nor do I aspire to be one (I like stuff too much). But, I think we can strive to have an enlightened heart, do good things, pass on bad things, and help others. We can know ourselves and respect who we are. And really rock out with that.

So, I AM, I CAN, etc, all good. I WILL, only good if you actually turn it to I AM DOING or I DID. But, WE ALL CAN and WE ALL WILL.

Rock on.

Stephie

Becca - Thanks for the positive thoughts and words to start the day! I'm in for a long, stressful day here, and I'm going to think positive!
- I CAN get everything done that needs to get done
- I AM intelligent, and I DO know what I am doing
- I AM above the petty complaints and attempts to break the rules that I am seeing from others
- I WILL maintain my positive attitude
- I DO have a yummy roast in the crockpot at home, so I don't even have to cook tonight. :)

Hope all who are sick feel much better soon!

I AM getting back to work now. :D

Max, it's actually easier to get that kind of body than a bodybuilder one... Note that the guy is not massively muscular, but his muscles are clearly dense, shaped and developed!

That's exactly the goal. I am not interested in large muscles. I am interested in functional ones (looking good is a bonus). The guy is "ripped" or as they used to say when I was in high school "cocked" or "cocked diesel". I wish I had a scanner, cause I'd show some of the poses he gets into in the book. It looks like CG. It looks effortless and like Rodney Yee would have a tough time keeping up.

Well, things are settling down and as near normal as we ever get around here. :D Hubby did great during and after surgery and is relatively pain free. I am so thankful this is behind us and he is on the mend.
Thankful too, that I can now get back to my routine of life that helps me stay on track. I seem to do best when I develop a way to do things and stay in that pattern . Boring ??? Well maybe, but I can do it that way, at least.
All said, I didn't have anything to eat that was off my plan, but I know I had more of it (nerves???) than I needed. Funny, when I was a kid if I got nervous I couldn't swallow a bite of food, and now I want to eat the house !!
I'll be back later with my report for the day. Hope every one is getting over their sickness. Take care.

I'm going to lunch, but I thought I'd share what I just spent 20 minutes reading (I read all the comments, which was kind of a waste of time, but well, not much else occupying it today).

This is from England, and called "Have we been conned about Cholesterol?" Doctor does not advocate any diet in particular, but rather raises some points about statin drugs (icky), sat fats (yummy), cholesterol numbers (unnecessarily scary) and the like. I dunno that this is new reading to anyone here, but if you were having trouble wrapping your head around Sat Fat as a good thing, or Cholesterol as not scary, give a read.

Hi, everyone! I feel just fine (for the record) but I realized last night that I'm worn out from all the recent stress and I need to take care of myself. I almost started crying when I couldn't decide how to prepare dinner. Now that's a warning! DH stepped right into soothing mode, which is usually my role. Did I mention he's my soul mate? Taking care of myself includes sticking to PP, which I am.

I'm sorry for all the sickies on the board. :tear: I hope it doesn't last too long.

Michelle, you sound great today! BS creeping up makes me uneasy, even if I know it's not from food choices. You're probably right that it's what's left of your illness. In fact, that's usually the first thing I start looking for is infection or inflammation, but this time I think it's stress.

Karole, yay for hubby and for routine! I need at least some routine.

 I can cope
 I will be grateful today
 I am a worthwhile person
 I do accept life as it comes, knowing I have friends to lean on

Thanks, Becca!

BC, I hope you get your sunshine! I live right on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, which is usually shrouded in cloud cover. I absolutely love sunshine and we usually get very little in the winter.

Go, go, go, Hawk!

Max, I answered your questions on yesterday's thread just now. I am low on discretionary chat time this week, so I didn't get a gratitude list on yesterday. So sorry!

Missy? Missy? I'm missing on ya!

Hi ALL!!!! I'm HOME from art class!!! I didn't have TIME to get on this morning! ..and I left in such a hurry, I FORGOT to even take my PURSE along with me!  I had so much in my hand and my art bag over my shoulder that I never realised I didn't have it...UNTIL I was on the TURNPIKE!!!!!!!!!  and THEN I realised I didn't have ANY MONEY, no cell phone, no license, NOTHING!!!!!!!! Nice place to LEARN that your POOR, eh?! THANKFULLY THOUGH, I scrounged around the ashtray (we don't smoke) for ENOUGH change to get off at the exit I needed too! $1.75's worth!!!!!...and my sweet, kind and UNDERSTANDING teacher wouldn't let me LEAVE class today with out giving ME some money! That was so sweet of her.

So, I made it there, enjoyed finishing my water color of roses, and made it back. I tried to be careful NOT to SPEED! (would be MY LUCK, eh?)

So, I'm just trying to catch up with the daily posts....I'll be back later!

Carol, by all means... take a break and don't meltdown...lol I think it's CATCHING actually!!! :D

Becca...NICE start of the day dear!

I can get to painting without my purse.
I will NOT do THAT again!
I am SURE I'm going to be COMMITTED
I do know I'll fit IN there! Nicely too, I might add! lol

Hi All,

I am over the worst of the mess after sleeping most of yesterday and today, when shall we say, indisposed. Eating very lightly today. I had a shake for brunch when I rolled out of bed at noon. I am keeping my fluids up.

Karole, thank you for your lovely pm. I'm glad your husband's surgery went well.

OK. Positive words. I CAN beat the crud.
I CAN stay on plan.
I CAN have the workshop that I am to present on the 30th written despite missing two days from life.

As I prepare to leave the office today, I have:
Eaten 4 meals (pro: 122, Cho: 22)
Drank 3 L water (+11 oz coffee)
Taken all pills for the day, save EFA, which lives in my fridge
Cranked my biggest workout yet (abs was down due to weak bridge)
Taken 7000 steps
And found my way back to something approaching positive.

I will report in tonight (if I can) after Idol and dinner. And I suspect I will have something special for discussion tomorrow.

Oh yeah, found out wife has job interview for tomorrow, in the district! I seem more excited than she does, but NTL, this is a positive sign.

PS- Did anyone know this stuff about yogurt?
http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/yogurtcarbs.htm
http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/yogurt.html

Also, does anyone have a source for this other than the GO-diet guy? It would seem too good to be true (of course, now that the store across the way has stopped selling Greek Yogurt, it's not completely too good to be true, but close).

Missy, I bet you had a lost feeling when you discovered your purse was at home and you were on the high way. What a nice teacher you have !!
And Ammy I do hope you were able to get the info you need from your Doctor today.

Well, I had better get to the facts mam, just the facts and here they are:

Protein 101
Carbs 38-14= 24 ecc
Water 90 oz. and counting
Supplements yes (in fact have increased them and now am taking CQ10 and alpha lipoic acid since rereading PPLP)

Exercise 15 walking and 10 min. working with my big beautiful ball.
I really like it, but haven't done much yet, I want to ease into it a bit and make sure I am doing it right.

Looks like I missed a lot of fun today with this bunch!:D

It was a granite day. Just got home and am running bath water for a good hot bath. Sometimes I wonder why I bother to shampoo the gray dust out of my hair when it's just going to get that way again tomorrow. Oh well, I'm thinking up a kerchief or something to preserve clean hair somewhat when I'm working out there.

Stayed on plan, took my supper out to work. I have to get in to the granite earlier tomorrow so I am going to TRY very hard to get going at 5 am to do my gym thing. I wake up, but then I don't GET up very often.:(

You mean something like these ;)?

When I was in Sweden, I had the opportunity to watch "The wheel of life (http://www.wheeloflife.co.uk/)", the only play/demonstration that I'm aware of that is performed by authentic Shaolin monks and apprentices outside China. It was just breathtaking, absolutely fantastic. Having practiced the same style for a few years myself, I think I just looked like a small kid watching these people do what they did.

First my stats, then hopefully some responses to the goings on here today.

Protein: 122 grams (only cuz I added a yogurt when I came up short after dinner)
ECCs: 27 grams
Water: 144 ounces in progress
Supplements: Morning/Evening - wasn't home enough this afternoon to get those in.
Exercise: YES - upper body resistance and 40 minutes sitting on my ball

Work is really impacting both my protein and water intake. I try to plan and take good foods, but scheduling doesn't seem to be working out right. And I'm definitely not drinking enough water while I'm there and that didn't used to be a problem for me :( Then I drink so much when I get home I spend most of the night in the bathroom :( Really need to work on this.

Gonna start a new post for responses ;) More smilies that way.... I'm turning into Missy!

I know you're all sick of hearing about my Excellent days, so I won't say it (even though it was).

4th day since the "Max Chart" in place and 100% on plan (x4)

Sherry....glad to see you again, thought maybe you were buried in a drift somewhere.

Missy....flew home from Florida a couple of years ago, into DIA, my car was in long term parking for 9 days. Somewhere around cruising altitude over the US I realized I did not have the money to get my car out of parking to get me and my daughter home from the airport in Denver to Colorado Springs.......I've never been in more of a panic about being stranded than I was mid-air. Fortunately if you don't have the money, they give you an envelope and 10 days to mail in......Whew!!!! I hate toll roads....what a racket.

I'm telling everyone here and now who is dealing with, has dealt with or will ever deal with sinus problems.......go to Wild Oats or other like store and get a Neti Pot. I'm telling you, it is the relief that no drug or nasal spray will give you.

Good night to all,
Michelle

I ate 4 times today

Wow, even set at 40 I can't get the whole day's worth of posts on one page. Hope I don't miss anyone. :(

Here we go...

Randy - glad to hear you're doing better. Though that's not the way to go about losing weight!

BC - I agree 200% about the sun. I need it too, it affects my energy level, mood, appetitie, everything when I go too long without sunshine.

Max - you were quiet today, more or less. Busy reading I s'pose. I didn't actually check the links, but I have heard that something about the carbs in yogurt not really counting as the bacteria eats up the lactose or something to that effect. I've also read that lactose in general doesn't cause the same insulin reaction as other sugars.

Claudette - be sure to get lots of rest and fluids. Bronchitis is nasty business.

Amy - WTG on resisting fast food. We have only recently discovered those chickens at the store and they have fast become a new favorite, especially lunch on the weekends. Hope all went well with the doctor.

Kathy - Hi! How are you enjoying your "no commitments" week?

Lynn - you always amaze me with all the working out that you do! Such dedication.

Stephie - you must've been really busy today to not even check in mid day! Hope it all went well. I hear we've got winter on the way again in a few days, even if it is just for one day!

Karole - glad to hear all went well with hubby. EXTRA glad that you are enjoying your ball! It does take some getting used to.

Carol - sounds like you're doing better! Good for your DH for doing the right thing.

Virginia - I'm sure you're snoozing away right now. Glad your day went so well. Hope tomorrow is just as wonderful.

Missy - :D smilie just for you! So glad you're feeling better! Painting sounds like fun... definitely not one of my talents though.

Bonnie - hope you feel better soon!

Joanne - once again I am SOOOOO glad you are back (I really am turning into Missy :) ) Even if you can't stay and chat, at least pop in to say hi!

Michelle - yeah for another great day! You have really come a long long way from the person that we first met in December!

To all the mods/admins that have popped in today.... Shadow, Gaelen, Sherry, Doc and of course our beloved leader Billie - Thank you ALL for everything that you do to keep this place going. :D

Now, where is Agnes today?

Hopefully this will post, took me about 30 minutes to write it.

As for the neti pot? I've heard another board's poster shout it's glory... I'll have to check it out!

They have more GUTS then I do!~ to stand there in LINE THAT LONG with the talent that they have! OH MY WORD! lol

Missy, if you sang us a song we would all love it. You would get my YES for going to Protein City!

Okay, let's close the day out:

Pro: 162 (this is like clockwork or something)
Cho: 38
Water: 3L + 11 oz Starbucks light iced coffee + 12 ounces diet coke
Pills: All
Exercise: 2*abs circuit, 2*strength circuit (around all the bench stealers and class room hogs) + 10300 steps
Plus:
5 Meals (Shake, Bar, Chicken+Carbonara, chicken jerky, pork chops+cheese+1/2 English Muffin with garlic parsley butter... tasty and 12g)
Positive (by the end of things... turned it around somehow)
On Plan, so 24/24, 7 to go

Noteable Stuff:
Workout was PITA, not because it was hard (though uneven squats are very hard with 35# dummies), but because gym was too crowded.
Got 1.25 hours of credit time for work today (because I came in early & left normal)
Read some interesting stuff.
Things cool with wife again.

Missy: Favorite Idol Auditions this season: Big Red and the last one tonight, who sang like she was having a bad fake orgasm.

Gabe: Exactly like that. Sifu Shi Yan Ming toured the US with a group of Shaolin Monks, then defected after the last show of the tour. Great story in the book.

Hawk: On March 5, I will start a rotation with the Employment Training Administration (ETA), shared between the Office of Workforce Innovation (OWI) and the Office of Policy Development and Research (OPDR)... I'm very interested in OPDR, and they have hired a lot of fellows to full time. I interviewed for this and beat two peers out, and am convinced they will keep me busy. Will have a five month project that will culminate with travel to Kansas City to ETA's premier event of the year, the Workforce Innovation Conference, where I'm gonna assemble a whole pavillion of invited presenters. Could work out to be a super networking platform, both in Labor and to the private sector. And, will also have OPDR work, which is currently puzzling the fellow who is in there now.

Sick People: You will be healthy soon. Really.

Everyone else: See you tomorrow, post intervals. Maybe the scale will move again. If it moves more, I'm gonna have to get the tape measure out early, because BF% is getting higher without new measurements.

Gabe and MAx ,,My oldest son can do all those crazy moves. He is a rubber band. He tried to get me to be able to do them in a slow KATA(SP?) but there was no way. Amazes me.

Max, I hope you get the perfect job for you and it works out for you. You seem to have a good work ethic. If you had anything to do that did not bore you like crazy it would be wonderful. You need a challenge and fun at the same time.

GOOD HEAVENS you guys were all SO SO CHATTY LAST NIGHT!

Michelle! Count ME in as one of those SO PLEASED to hear of your excellence! AWESOME! Keep it up and keep inspiring US! :D ~ as for the money/toll business....I was wondering WHAT they'd do if I arrived without it...and well, I didn't ASK...but next week when I go, I'm going too. Just out of curiosity! I suppose the same would be for the police if they stopped...you have 24 hours or so to PROVE IT. It was just a most uncomfortable feeling.

Neti-pot, hum? Okay, I'll look for it....where though? I mean is it a natural remedy? I"m assuming? Where would you find it in a store (in what aisle I mean)? What's Wild Oats (Health food store?)

Sherry...lol Oh! NOW, if I got stopped BY the same policeman, well, I doubt I'd have gotten off TWICE! LOL :jawDrop:

Joanne, I'm with you on not wanting to get UP either. Especially NOW, it's dark. I sleep. I'm spoiled, I know.

BECCA! Look at YOU girl writing to EVERYONE AGAIN! See....SEE!! I knew you had it in ya! Good to see YOU like the YOU we've come to know and love!

Hi Cacky!

OTTAWA!!!!! ME SING!!!!!!!!!!! :o OH....OH!.....oh. I don't THINK SO! lol  After watching AMERICAN IDOL tryouts, and wondering WHY on earth MOST of THEM DO! ....oh, lol, NO WAY! lol

Max...lol My favorite one was the OTHER cowboy hatted girl that went OFF...the one who KNEW she couldn't sing, and decided that THEY needed to pick her and mold HER! ~ SHE was a LOON! and totally had ME squealing in delite! LOL Yep, the last girl was something ELSE! LOL ...and the first "Ian" guy! ...WHERE do these people COME FROM! LOL ...gotta love it.

Hi GABE!

But Missy ... Hawk volunteered and if you accepted, we'd only need one more person to run a little pageant.

Heck ... I'd like to hear Hawk sing anyway.

I don't have much range, only class  or I'd jump in. It would be as bad or worse than Leonard Cohen or Johny Cash on a bad day.
If you do change your mind, I'll find a midi or background piece from your favorite song.

This is a side story, from that loon. Wife & I were watching, and the key phrase was about Paris Hilton not being able to sing, and blah blah. I am not a fan of PH (or celebrities in general). But, Paris Hilton won the birth lottery, right? She's worth some untold large multiple of $1Mil, although I suspect she will be the generation to spend it. But, if you can marginally not sing, but lead a life of leisure and have what amounts to unlimited money, then you can finance your own Idol, create your own special, as gaudy as you want it to be, right?

So, here's this girl, who wasn't born an billionaire heiress, but feels entitled to be the Idol, based on PH's largess. As I count, there are roughly 280 million people in the US, and until 18 weeks from yesterday, exactly five of them have won American Idol. That's what we would call pretty stiff odds against general entitlement. 5:280,000,000.

Last thought on this: there were a lot of people who weren't very good who have this sense of entitlement to fame. I don't want to say this is the fault of TV or whatever (hate that), but there are what, maybe 200 celebrities on the actual A-list? Maybe 500? Let's call the A&B list together maybe about 1500 (we're talking TV, Film, Sports, & Music, in the public mind, at any given time). Out of 200Million plus adults. Where does the sense of entitlement come from? Why can't they figure the odds, go to school and become accountants and lawyers, and be famous in their circle? I dunno.

I lied, that wasn't my last thought on it. So, on I Love NY, my favorite character is Mr. Boston. He is consistently funny, and he's oddly real. During the financial presentations, he was the only one with a solid career that is pretty much recession proof (CPA... as long as there are taxes, there will be employed CPAs... I don't count the man who claimed to do real estate investment, because this will fall apart in the next 18-36 months, very hard, and really mess the economy, or the guy who wants to start a horse farm). Granted, he's on this show and competing for the affection of a woman who:

I still have trouble believing isn't a drag queen
Isn't really famous and certainly isn't rich
Might just be a psychopath
Has a mom who is clearly insane and a father who is clearly beaten down by the insane mother (remember, you marry your parents, sort of).So, he's clearly nuts too.

Another deal here: Real Estate guy is asked by Omarosa why, if he's worth $300K, is he rocking cubic Zircon instead of diamonds. Answer should be, "I want to be worth $500K to $2Mil when I retire, instead of homeless and fabulous."

Okay, if this goes further, it's gonna need it's own thread.
