Where is everyone.....sheesh....I know it's Sunday, but up and at em folks. If I'd known everyone was going to sleep in late today, I'd have posted at 5 a.m. (MST)
I am in Charge.
I am in Control.
My success today depends on me.
I can make excuses for why
I don't succeed, but
the only person I am deceiving is myself
if I don't put forth the:
EFFORT
(gotta want it)
DISCIPLINE
(just say no)
and
ENERGY
(get up and move)
required for me to be successful.
Going to be a beautiful day in Pikes Peak region. Should get a lot of snow melt in the city today. Getting cabin fever and want to get outside today and move around physically. Since most sidewalks are still snowpacked, think I might try walking the hilly streets in my neighborhood. I am so looking forward to summer. I've NEVER hiked the Bear Creek trail before (wanna try it). I also want to go up to Helen Hunt Falls and climb to the top of the falls without stopping to rest (I've always had to stop and rest frequently before). Pretty sure I could do it now, if it weren't for all the snow. Living this close to the mountains there are great hiking trails. For the most part, walking for fitness has always been a part of my life. Always the first exercise when I try to lose weight. I've never hiked much, because it's so strenuous and I usually had to stop frequently to rest. Feel like I could take on the Peak right now at a pretty fast clip(okay, I'm dreaming....a good goal though).
Going to finally get my meatloaf done today, and try talapia filets with the Cajun spice I used on the shrimp yesterday.
Feeling a respiratory ailment coming on. Blood sugars higher yesterday and this morning (125 this a.m.). Hope to get rid of whatever it is quickly (yeah, I know, smoking doesn't help the situation at all).
....to all
Michelle

Good morning Michelle and everyone to follow!
Great thoughts to start us off Michelle and so right, my success depends on me and I can't blame the circumstances or people or anything else, even though that would have been an old pattern of behavior, I know it is "all about me"! Once you accept the fact that YOU are the only person in control of you in any situation it gets much easier, but wow what an acceptance that is!
Claudette had chosen Gitfiddlin' Carol to be the "pigeon" of the day but since Carol started us out on this, PHEW CAROL I am making an executive decision here...oh BECCA! I thought Becca since you will be returning to work it might be easier today than next week when it gets a bit crazy for a few weeks until you settle in, so you are the designee extraordinare!
Talk with you all later in the day, the Polster dog has her head in my lap while I am tying, a sure sign she needs to go out!

Morning all,
Continuing with Rocky Balboa, and Michelle's wonderful motivation, I thought I would dump one of the more amusing speeches Rocky makes, this one to his mostly worthless kid. It's along the same lines, and it's mostly amusing when I do my Sly impression, which wife finds killer amusing. (Key question on Stallone: You have a speech impediment. Why think you should make a living talking?). Any rate, here it is, because it's not so important how hard you hit...
*Insert marbles in mouth*
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!
*Marbles disengaged*
Indeed. You are better than anything but the best in personal responsiblity and accountability.
Rock(y) on!

...oh BECCA! I thought Becca since you will be returning to work it might be easier today than next week when it gets a bit crazy for a few weeks until you settle in, so you are the designee extraordinare!
Me? I won't even be here today! Leaving to go up to Clemson in a bit to return my son. ;) Guess I can come up with something... course I'm still trying to figure out what we're supposed to do when it's our spotlight day!
Okay... as I said, gonna be on the road today. Plan on taking every water bottle in the house with us so I have plenty to drink (though have to share with everyone else). Will even use my fancy new bottle friendly ice to keep it extra cold! This, of course, means stopping at every rest stop along the way (and then some!). Also taking some almonds and cheese for munching on, if needed.
Not sure yet what we're doing for lunch. Depends on when we get there and stuff like that. Last trip we ate at Ruby Tuesday's and I had a bison burger (no bun) and broccoli.
May stop by Whole Foods too, again not sure. Since we're getting a MUCH later start than I had figured on (wouldn't be here posting now if we were leaving when I thought!) we may not have time.
Will be missing a meeting later this afternoon at church, missions trip information for the DDs. I can get the info from the directors later though, I hope. They will probably both be going to Bay. St. Louis Mississippi (DD1 went last year) as well as the "in town" trip (which they've both done every year eligible).
Dinner, no clue with the being on the road. Will depend on what time we leave from up there and stuff.
As to while we're up there, I will be getting some walking in! College campus you can't park close to anything ;) Been a while since we walked the town or the campus "tour" so I may suggest that, it'll be a good test to see if I've improved any. Weather permitting of course. Definitely going to the bookstore for text books.
Think this is the most I've written in days! Other than my "confession" about the chocolate yesterday. I really had hoped I could keep that stuff in the house (the 85% Lindt) for craving control, or even 1-2 squares/day. Not gonna happen. I'm genetically programmed for addicitions and apparently chocolate, in all it's forms, is a biggie for me.
Anything else I need to share as the "spotlight" person? Let me know and I'll do my best!

Oh yeah... forgot....
I did my weekly weigh/measure today. Am finally back to where I was Christmas Eve. Hopefully things will continue steadily downward from here on out. Maybe even can move the ticker soon! The "decade" has changed and seems to have stuck though! :D

Becca I would say as the spot light person you are doing just fine! Carol calls it the "pigeon", which I love as well!
It is about making you in the spotlight, or however it evolves. You already showed us how you planned for the trip, bringing all the water bottles, bringing some nuts and cheese along, getting in some walking on campus, you are ready for your day of challenges and you shared some of your planning with us, now how great is that!
You are on your way Becca to being the star of the day, check in later!

Michelle,
A great way to start off this Sunday.:) We still have no snow here. Although it is often wet we have had only one lasting snowfall and it was gone in a few days. Southern cities like Toronto have had no lasting snow.
For breakfast I had the Microwave bread that Karole reminded me about with PB and WF jam. When made with Whey protein it is a complete meal as far as protein goes .
I will get a workout in later after church and am just finishing a lesson to for 14/15 yo that are in my class.

I swear! I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE! :D It NEVER fails to LIFT ME UP even if I didn't realise I needed LIFTED! :D
Great opening post Michelle! :D
Max, you too!
BECCA! You did it PERFECTLY! That's what being spotlighted DOES...it suddenly shines the spot light on YOU and you find yourself sitting up straighter, making sure your shirt is tucked in and SMILE ~ then give us your information and plan!! :D Which I SAW you do, like a REAL TROOPER, in your post! LOVE IT! :D
I think one of the things I SEE that this spotlighting has done for some of us OLDIES...is that it reminded us of DOING something that we WHERE doing regularly and with spirit in the October Challenge?? At least that's MY observation anyways?
I'm always AMAZED at the ability of this group...who'm ever's willing to participate in finding how to do this in a new light! Very fun.

Wow, Michelle, what a start you gave us today! Very potent thoughts and oh so true.
Randy- isn't it funny how we actually forget some of the best foods when we don't have them for a while! I sort of get stuck in a rut and soon I have forgotten all about some really great dish that I had previously fixed. I am thinking about making a recipe card out with a list of the really satisfying dishes which I will put in the front of my recipe box. Then when I am stuck for something to cook or plan a menu for, I will just look at that card for ideas. Maybe that will help me remember all the goodies we have at our disposal.
Missy, I'm with you-- I love this place and all the wonderful people willing to share ideas and hopes and dreams. I could just kick myself for staying away so long. What was I thinking.

I agree Karole...joining in on these challenges has made the total difference for me, and I'm glad I didn't hesitate back then. Regardless of WHEN you jumped in, I'm glad you did! :D You don't really KNOW what a difference it can make till you FEEL IT for yourself by being involved and committing!

Hi, y'all,
Congrats to you, BEcca, as "pigeon" of the day. Sorry, Carol(Gitfiddle), I had forgotten you started out the ball as "pigeon". Glad, Billie has a great memory!
Fantastic opening post, Michelle! So true!
Get out the zinc and hit the vitamin c, so maybe you can wart off the resiperatory thinggie trying to attack you.
When we were last in Colorado several years ago, we never made it to Pikes Peak and I was so sorry. We did go to the Garden of the Gods, which was just fabulous. I hadn't gained my weight then, so I was able to walk/hike without any difficulty. I hope to visit your state sometime in the not too distant future, maybe I can look you up.
We don't have anything like your mountains in Colorado, but just being outdoors in wooded areas are why I think I love hiking for a walk in our nearby state park. It is so much better than just walking on flat cement.
Oh, yes, lets compare notes about government jobs, sometime.
Just had time to post now since I went to church and then out to eat afterwards, to a tex-mex place, but I stayed on plan.
The tile guy is coming back today to continue working, so I will have to exericise to a tape tonight, not time to hike this afternoon.
Have a great day, all.
Forgot to add, love your post today, too, Max. The marble thing had me LOL.
Hugs,
Claudette

Claudette had chosen Gitfiddlin' Carol to be the "pigeon" of the day but since Carol started us out on this, [B]PHEW CAROL I am making an executive decision here...oh BECCA!
Hah! I got in before any rules were made. Maybe I wrote the rules? Most likely there are no rules. I don't even remember what I said. Neither does Claudette, obviously! :D
Missy, I agree. When you see the spotlight in your eye, you squint, then you take a deep breath and summon up evey positive thing about your day that you can think of. It's a great tool because it puts you into perspective. Everyone rises to the occasion.
Becca, you did a great job. And a positive word about the addictive feeling towards the chocolate. Nobody here is more of a food addict/stress eater than I am and I have noticed that it backs off. I always refer to it as the "sleeping tiger" and it wakes up at the slightest touch, but I'm having more good days than bad days on a regular basis. The rule is if you can take it or leave it, you can have it. I did have a little bit of trouble with mom's christmas fudge in the house, but I can go days without even thinking about it. That would NEVER have happened two or three years ago. Don't be discouraged.
A caveat after having a weird day food-wise yesterday; fasting blood sugar was 92 this morning. It was 101 a couple of days ago. Looking back at the record, it has gradually come down during the December challenge. No miracles, just a gradual curve.
Bad night with leg cramps (not walking for three days) so I slept in this AM, missed church and woke up just in time to have the grandson come for a visit. I've been on the floor playing race cars with him and encouraging DS to learn blues harmonica. The Christmas tree isn't down yet, but I'll start as soon as I log off here.
Karole, I think you're right about being stuck in a rut with the recipes. There is a wealth of recipes in the archive and I rarely look in there unless someone brings up the subject.

Today has been a near perfect day for me as far as food and enjoyment. A little long but I thought that you might enjoy.
Protein and carb wise everything in order and it was my first day back teaching Sunday School. I have two callings, Teaching 14/15 yo youth and Stake Computer Specialist which takes an evening every two weeks as well as an emergency once in a while.
I did not have a manual for this years classes since I was away last week when they were given out, so based the lesson on Virtues, using the Virtues Deck (http://www.virtuesproject.com/uscart/browse.html). When I arrived at the class there was a young man who looked to be 10 or 11 as the rest of the class came in. The other two teachers were away so I had all the 12-17 youth and figured he must be a young looking 12 year old.
I was just starting when he shouted, "Are we gonna play Hangman?"
I replied that likely not since it is a large class and we already have a topic to cover. I then had everyone introduce themselves along with age and interests. This young man was 17 and I learned later has Prader-Willey syndrome that has affected his mental and social skills.
Everytime I asked a question he would yell an answer or more often the start of an answer and then look down and say he forgot or give an answer that did not relate to the question.
I asked for volunteers for opening and closing prayer and he jumped up and said "I will!" ... paused and then said "I'll do the closing prayer so I will know how to do it."
The lesson continued and the card he picked was Trust. When it came to his turn, I asked him to tell me how he would exercise that virtue during this new year.
He replied that he "trusts everyone here in this class". When I asked if he knew them, he replied he only knew one person and pointed shyly at her, obviously smitten, a 17 yo student. We went on with a few more questions and then he said "If you don't trust anyone how could you ever have fun." and it led to further discussion with a few mild heckles over who he should not trust.
Everyone else did their card and we did not have time for Hangman. When I asked for a closing prayer, he said he did not know how and I had one of the young women go over a simple format, Address Heavenly Father, give thanks for what we have recieved, ask for anything you might stand in need of and close in the name of the Saviour.
He started off six times with pauses between and finally said he couldn't do it. I explained that he could say it however he wanted and the class encouraged him. He asked if he could have his friend say it and she accepted.
As he was leaving he asked if he could come back and I was about to say yes, most of the class responded yes, anytime, and it reminded me of his earlier response that a few had joked about, but that he "trusts the whole class" and they honored that.
A student who is a friend of this new boy but did not make it today, called after the class and asked if he was too disruptive to the class. I replied that he was not, and joked no worse than Xxxxxx, and he would be welcome anytime.
The thing that stood out is that sometimes teen youth can be hurtful with each other, and I think the difference was that this young man in a boy's body, gave them his full trust.
I don't usually discuss beliefs, affiliation or so on but thought I would leave this today since it was about religion but a high point in seeing teens give complete acceptance of someone who is quite different.

Claudette you had a great day yesterday!! And I am sure BECCA is doing just as well.
Carol, is there anything you can contribute to the BS drop? More consistency? More exercise? What in December was different, that is fabulous news!
karole, don't look back only ahead. We all can kick ourselves for something or other, but that is the past, look forward to a healthier future!
Randy, that bread sounds pretty yummy I took a loot at it in the recipe forum, thanks for posting it! And a quick edit here...nice lesson for us all, thanks!
Max, hopefully the marbles are still dislodged, nice thoughts there by the way.
I have pork chops simmering in wine and mushrooms, may add 1/4 cup of cooked wild rice and carrots, celery yet.

Hi all, back from my "trip". What an absolutely nasty day... RAIN and FOG the entire time. Heavy rain too, intermitant wipers weren't enough. That scratched any plans of walking and we actually didn't even stay long. Bought his books, dropped him off and left.
DH brought up Whole Foods on the way home so we swung by there and browsed and nibbled. He bought some more of the jam/jelly he got last time. I discovered that I need to expand my cheese selections!
As to eating on the road.... first rest stop I grabbed 1 ounce of cheese and my nuts from the trunk (to hold me til lunch). Lunch was at Cracker Barrel. They have LC sections on both their lunch/dinner and breakfast menus! I had the "Eggs and Meat" off the breakfast one, which according to them had 2 net carbs + 7 for the whole wheat toast. I didn't eat the tomato slices, but did get some juice out of the orange wedge (new experience for me too! :D) - counting the whole meal as 10 just to cover my bases and allow for "mistakes" on their part. Had another 1 ounce cube of cheese when we got back to the car cuz I was still hungry! And other than the few samples at Whole Foods haven't eaten since! Waaaay past time for food for me though I'm starting to get hungry.
Also went through 3 of my water bottles on the road, plus what I had at with "lunch".
Karole and Carol thanks for the support and advice on the chocolate. This was my first experience with the darker stuff and obviously I'm not ready for it yet (and my never be).. the NEAN sounds like a good approach. Oddly enough I think I did better last week with my 70% bar, dunno if it was cuz it had more carbs and thus I had to really monitor myself or cuz there's "other reasons" for me wanting more chocolate right now.
Randy I really enjoyed your story. Sounds like a great group of kids at that church!
Will report back in once I have my final numbers. :)

Hi all!
late posting tonight due to a very busy and productive day.
Got up early, put dds wash in the dryer and another in the washer (ulterior motive for her yesterday visit)
Had breakfast, then we went to Costco.
Very, very pleased. We got lots of good lc things - some sliced meat with not too many preservatives that I can have for lunch, mixed nuts, my bacon and eggs (out of both), and fresh green beans and a couple of bags of salad mix and a bag of romaine lettuce and some fresh blueberries.
Then a work friend dropped by with her "best in the world" carrot cake. It looks delicious, but I didn't take a bite, had two 16 oz glasses of water while she was here.
Had a Costco rotisserie chicken for lunch!
Did more laundry, paid some bills, dd came back to visit and collect things we picked up for her from Costco and to go "shopping" for tp and paper towels:lol: - it's so wonderful when they've moved out, huh??
Drove her home,
then dh & I went for our walk around the park - got chillier out than we were expecting, so bit of a brisk walk :D
then time for dinner - dh slow roasted some pork ribs, dry with spices - and had fresh green beans...
and I finally have a little time here as he is watching FOOTBALL!
I didn't count this week-end. Think that I'll have to give up counting on week-ends, but I am way more active, so it kind of offsets.
Did manage to get many, many positive things done at home and at work this past week!:D And I weigh in tomorrow. And I will measure, hopefully in the am if I get up early enough.

Becca that is a great day, at least on plan. You mounted several obstacles and jumped them well, you have me inspiration and I appreciate so much your sharing. Becca don't forget to PM me who you want to be the "guinea pig" for tomorrow! :)
Anniesnan, the same for you! Carrot Cake :paranoid: YOU did well indeed! Isn't it amazing what we can accomplish if we let it happen! If we really work hard, not only did you pass the cake you also got in the water! Double YAHOO!!
Finished the wash and the Christmas decorations are down and in their boxes, but I have to say I have a basement and a closet to contend with next! Off for a long hot bubbly bath and watching some TV and just relaxing!
You guys are awesome indeed! Thanks for a great day, you all certainly helped mine right along too!

Anniesnan: Be careful with the "giving up counting for the weekend cause I'm more active." I'm not saying count everything, but if you're not going to count, avoid stuff that is carby hardcore. You might want to try and put together today just to see what I'm talking about.
Becca: Whole Wallet (as we call it) is my favorite place because they have the best section of the best thing you can eat (as a foodie): cheese. Not always the best prices, but they best selection and the most friendly staff that will help you find stuff (and taste stuff) all to make a sale. Love that counter and yes, you should expand your cheese selection. This is one of the keys to eating better (both health and flavor) going forward (nix this if you can't eat cheese or are giving it up for whatever reason).
Bille: Marbles still out, but a Sly sighting will put them right back in. Ay-yo, Billie!
Ottawa: Touched. Really.
My day, by numbers, looks like this:
Pro: 143
CHO: 40 (HTG, I did it again, and I'm shutting it down for the night... explanation to follow)
Water: 1.5L Water, 1/2 medium movie diet coke, 1 12 ounce bottle Diet Coke, 1/2 12 ounce bottle Coke Zero (yeah, lotta coke) 4 ounce Champagne (only white in the house)
Exercise: Planned day off, but did walk quite a bit today, including a 2 mile tour around Old Town Alexandria.
Plusses:
Ate 5ish meals today (details to come)
Off for Italian
On plan, so 7/7, 24 to go
Pretty positive.Five Meals was like this: Protein Bar for Breakfast, Small Cheese for Snack 1, bacon egg and cheese sandwich for Lunch, almonds for movie snack, small cheese for home snack post movie, The Ultimate LC Pasta Dish for dinner. The cheeses were those Babybels, which I LOVE! but don't really consider a full snack. But I suspect they are sufficient to keep metabolism in digestion mode, so rock on.
Ultimate LC Pasta Dish rocks like this: For two: 7 ounces of dreamfields (I used penne, but a spaghetti shape would work fine too) cooked for six minutes and drained. 3 ounces of prosciutto sauteed in olive oil and ground cinnamon for a few minutes till crispy. Remove from heat and whisk in, in this order: 8 ounces heavy cream. Whisk. 5 ounces Parmesan Reggiano. Whisk till incorporated. 3 egg yolks, whisked in individually until incorporated. Lightly drained pasta. Light burner to med low, and stir together for 5 minutes until pasta is coated thickly and evenly. Plate it up, grate some more parm over the top and grind some pepper. Eat, Lick Plate. It really doesn't get much better than this. About 12 ECC per serve (REally!)
Any rate, have much to do, so I out of here.

Thats what I've been wondering TOO MISS BILLIE!? :o Hope they are okay. I'm wondering about Deke too!? Brigit Carol...she's missing....is she in the chocolates TOO! EEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!
Randy, loved your story, kids can be hurtful, or they can be great! Good for these kids...thanks for sharing, heartwarming.
Becca, isn't Whole Foods CHEESE section interesting! :D OH heck, I just love checking out EVERYTHING THERE! :D Glad your back, sorry it was miserable weather for your travels! Sounds like you did WELL!
Good for you Annie in avoiding that CAKE! Hard to do when it's an offering from a friend...but you did it!
Carol...love the thought of playing race cars on the floor with the grandson...I LOVED my brothers match box cars when I was a kid! :D
Claudette...staying on plan, out to dinner, GOOD FOR YOU! :D I'm very pleased with my ability anymore to stick to the plan and not feel left out...when there was a day in time when I couldn't have EVER imagined I could. But, because enough of us report that we do, I can and NOT think about it as though it were no big deal! YAY US!!!
Today, 100% on plan.
Protein: 155
Ecc's: 25
Water: Yep
Supps: not yet, but will
Exercise: no
I must say, even though no weight loss has showed up, I'm feeling it...and I JUST LOVE THAT! I love it when you can feel a difference!
I also FINISHED the peppermint scented CANDLES too today! GOOD HEAVENS!!!!!!! You just won't BELIEVE the quantity of these things I OWN! lol I'll HAVE to take a picture of them! lol
Oh, and, tonight, we went out and bought a DYSON sweeper! I'm SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!! and HAPPY!!!! We bought the PURPLE ONE!...the ANIMAL!!!...I mostly like it cause it's PURPLE though! :D MAN does it work WELL! Love it! I like it mostly too because my dogs don't BARK at it for some reason!

Good Evening to all who stopped by thus far today, and all will come through eventually.
Very good day. Made my meatloaf, finally. It was very good. Cooked up some stuff for the coming week.
Went to my folks, installed my Dad's WebCam, ate some summer sausage and cheese.
Took a 2.5mile walk (my favorite walk to date) at my folks. It's 2.5 miles round trip, from their house-you go .25 miles to the corner-take a right and walk 1 full mile to the next ROAD-turn around and walk back. It is a very hilly mile (even though they live on the eastern plains). I like it so much because of the inclines, really gets the blood pumping. I forgot to mention it was colder than you know what, wind was blowing a little which made it even colder. Not good when I'm trying to fight off whatever bug is trying to invade my lungs. But I did it, am glad I did it, and am currently sitting here drinking my herbal tea for colds which always seems to help ward off the little buggers.
I'm eating breakfast for dinner tonight, since I ate meatloaf for breakfast this morning. I'm going to take some Ibuprofen cuz my legs hurt, sit back, drink my tea and relax.
Becca...sounds like you had a very good day as well. Kudos for all the positive things you did today.
Claudette....I'm glad you had a good day yesterday. Yes, lets compare notes sometime. I work for Insurance companies, I'm not sure which is worse. Everytime you post about walking the trails and stuff where you are, makes me want to go up to Cheyenne Canyon, or yes, Garden of the Gods.....Definately on my "to do" list this summer
Randy....great story.....
Max....as usual you came up with another quote/phrase/comment/song/inspiration etc., to carry us through the day.
Carol....sometimes when you're first, you get to make the rules
Karole and Missy.....being here has made ALL the difference in my success thus far. I've failed so often before, even with different support groups, that I do not think I would be where I am today if it weren't for this group right here. Each and every person who comes here, stays here, uses the other people who come here anyway they can, owes at least part of their achievement to the people who have Motivated and Inspired them to success. This is a Wonderful thing.

~ I couldn't AGREE with you MORE. I belonged to a weightloss (pill) group for YEARS and it just grew to be a place to "hang out" and certainly NOT one with motivation or daily inspiration.....DESPITE my best effort to cheerlead daily and try to come up with NEW information (I just got tuned out actually)....and that is what is SO INSPIRATIONAL about finding this board, with this plan, with THESE people....I feel very much an HOME here..and I personally KNOW the difference this type of support makes. I can't do without it...and quite frankly, I don't WANT to do without it! Michelle, your NOT going to fail...because there is a PLAN for every stage as long as your willing to participate! NOW THAT IS GREAT!!!!!!! and YOUR doing AWESOME! I'm so glad to have you as a team member! :D
Max...I'm GLAD you found time to post on the weekend! You just plain make me smile! I like your curly haired picture of you in your profile too Mister! lol
Your advise to Annie was spot on too! I MEANT to say it to her as well, but FORGOT! ANNIE don't not count on the weekends....or you too will SEE that it could stall your success! We have to be EVER vigilent on those pesky carbs. I agree with MAX! Don't get lax. Ever.

Back again with my final numbers.
Had some "issues" at dinner that have been creeping back in. Not a carb problem or anything like that, just a general eating problem. Food not wanting to go down as it should. And we'll leave it at that.
Ate at Zaxby's for dinner, I checked their carb counts before we went; surprising low actually considering. Should've checked the protein counts (and trans fats too - ) and gotten a smaller portion, but can't undo what's been done... was originally worried about not meeting my protein for the day, ended up going WAY overboard.
Protein: 183 grams
ECCs: 26 grams
Water: working on 112 ounces (estimated as so much was from eating out so probably actually more)
Supplements: Morning only at this point... will try to get the pm ones in if I'm up to it.
Exercise: sitting in the car most of the day and a leisurely stroll around Whole Foods. ;)
Yes, the cheese section was wonderful as was the produce. I really like going in that store. And discovered that my almond butter does in fact cost less at Kroger than up there!
Not much else going on for me tonight. Going to start getting up earlier tomorrow to prepare for work. Should be interesting! I did finally get the "hot beverage center" set up in the kitchen, so tea will hopefully be part of the morning routine now!
Bille will PM you my choice, have someone in mind, but want to look over the roll call list once more to make sure. ;)

Becca...what do you mean that it doesn't go down as it should? If you wish to talk about it that is. Okay, I know you said "leave it at that" but, I'm concerned because you seem concerned.
You did okay by having that much protein Becca...I know it sounds like alot...BUT I get to have alot...so to me, it's not all that much more then my EVERYDAY! lol
I treat Whole Foods like a MUSUEM! NICE to look at but much to expensive to take HOME! lol....well, I do MANAGE to buy SOME...lol it's SUCH a fun store!
Max...we've called it Whole Paycheck too! lol :D

Hi All!
I did a quick scan of y'all yesterday afternoon with great plans of getting back on later in the evening. Remember Intention Road? Well, guess I was on it yesterday.
I think I was fighting some bug Friday evening and yesterday (and appear to be victorious today!). I was craving comfort foods (bravely didn't succumb) and didn't have much energy. I went out for my Saturday walk, went about a third of the way and said "Nope! Not today", turned around and came home. I've NEVER done that before. I've always pushed through and completed my route. Came home and held the couch down until I crawled off to bed. Today has been good! Cardio yes, supps yes, water - will be right on by bed time, carbs will be about 25ish (still haven't had dinner), protein will be right.
Yesterday I was craving chicken and broccoli. And I wanted it gooey. Figure that one out? I went out to the recipe section on Low Carb Luxury and merged two recipes. It actually turned out quite well  . I tossed 5 chicken thighs (Costco frozen bagged pieces) in a skillet, lightly browned them. Added 1/2 cup mayo, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 can mushrooms, a little onion powder, white pepper, and poultry seasoning. After that had simmered for awhile I added 4 cups raw chopped broccoli. I just layed it on top of the mess to begin with. After it had steamed awhile I stirred it into the goop. I was amazing how much the broccoli cooked down to almost nothing. Then I sprinkled a little (about an ounce) of shredded Monterey Jack over the whole mess and let it melt. I haven't taken the time to run the numbers, but this can't be to horrific carb wise when broken down into 5 servings.
I'm gonna call it quits for the evening. Here's wishing everyone a great, successful week!

I'll email you the answer to your question, not that I don't want to talk about it, more to spare the board ;)
I don't mind going over on my protein, it's not uncommon for me, but I don't generally have 102 grams at one sitting! Went in to dinner at 81 grams... like I said, should've checked ALL the numbers, not just carb grams, before deciding what I wanted to eat.
Off to compose mail now! :D

We have Whole Foods on the north side of town. I've never been.
I have Wild Oats close by though. I go in there occasionally, I rarely buy anything not on sale though (single Mom, no child support-yeah I've got money to burn). In the deli they have a pasta salad that has whole roasted garlic cloves in it that is wonderful. I haven't had it since October, but I remember it fondly.

Nope, not a whole pig, but maybe 2 chickens worth of tenders (it's a fingers and wings joint!).
I hope the mail wasn't too gross. In doing further internet surfing on my problem it seems that 89 % of people that have it "fixed" have recurrance in 5 years... well it's been 5 and half so I guess I was due. :(
I'll second the cheese comment!

Feeling better today, but still have a sore throat, and my voice has dropped an octive!
I toured new stores today - Whole Foods and Mississippi Market co-ops. I thought I'd mention it because WHILE you guys were typing about it, I was THERE! I bought some Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain High Fiber hot cereal which was pretty good (see "what are you eating section) and then at the Mississippe Market got some REALLY GOOD looking blueberries.
My food was within limits, but missed exercise again today and won't meet the water goal-unless I want to be up all night in the bathroom!
Decided to take it easy again, until I'm feeling better. Tomorrow I will put on the pedometer again!
So, for the week: :D
Met all food goals,
missed 2 of 4 exercise days,
met water goal 6 of 7 days,
tried 2 new recipes
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the week, but ready to start next week and to FEEL better!:frown:
I must say, I am so impressed with you all that you take the time to respond to everyone who writes...how do you remember what everyone said so that you can reply:o ?? I am really impressed:) !!!

I'm just now starting to get the hang of who everyone is and remembering them all. You've just aquired about 25 new close friends and and unknown number of aquaintances.
Hope you feel better soon.

So many happenings today for every one sounds like you all were really busy. I had company so have run late on every thing and just have time to post this evening and not much to chat.
But Randy, that was such a wonderful story. We hear so much about the kids that isn't good, it was great to hear about the kindness that is out there too.
Here goes the report:
Protein 102
carbs 23
supplements yes
exercise 30 min on treadmill
water 90 plus oz
Every one have a great evening.

Carol, is there anything you can contribute to the BS drop? More consistency? More exercise? What in December was different, that is fabulous news!
Billie, I noticed in November that keeping track of the protein and carbs more closely had me eating better. Also, this fall I was able to start walking again and by November, I was in good shape. In December, I upped the walking a little more and decided to focus on the fbs count. I know that extra stress in the form of a new job and not being able to walk is what put the bs up. Walking brings down stress and increases my self-esteem and feeling of well-being as well as burning carbs faster. The weather has co-operated by keeping the bike path clear. :)
When I first started PP, I was on half-dose Actos in three months and completely off it in six months. I'm back on half-dose since October 2005 and as soon as I can, I'll be off.
Oh! Oh! I forgot to tell you yesterday that for that wedding, I was able to get into a dress that I haven't worn in a couple of years! Add that to my December report. We decided to go "orchestra black" and it was perfect.
Randy, I am so touched by your story today. I don't know if I could have handled it as well. I admire your skill and your heart.
Another strange day because I slept very late.

Missy
01-08-2007, 01:02 AM
Oh! LOVE THE TWO BROWSER IDEA SHERRY! :D
But, well, my way is... I just, FIRST read everything under whatever I posted LAST....hence WHY I can keep up, because I'm HERE off and on throughout the day...and secondly, I'm PART OF THE PROBLEM for the REST of you guys! :D :jawDrop:  :D
Ammy...ONE thing you can do that makes it easier... is to
A. go up through your USER CP button above...which leads you to your profile, and somewhere on THAT page you can find Edit Options and INCREASE the Thread Display Options (third box down) from the default (only 12) to the maximum of 40!. ..and then you can generally READ the entire thread to scroll through. Make it MUCH easier to respond...cause you can read then scroll back up and respond.
FIRST though, do you realise that as you type your reply in the "Go Advance" button....you can scroll your mouse DOWN and it gives you the over view of the thread in last post to first post order? You may NOT realise this, if you post a quick reply usually OR you've never scrolled the screen down to even know that reference information is there!
Heaven KNOWS I don't have THAT good of BRAIN to recall everyone's everything!
When I was a newbie, I made LISTS! I had paper after paper with messages and names that I constantly filled my waste paper basket up with! Kinda funny actually!
Then I learned to make the scroll go to forty and that pretty much cured the LISTS! lol
Another thing Amy....as a NEWBIE, trust me, just consentrate on YOU posting daily, and don't get overwhelmed trying to post to each and everyone...UNLESS you have time. If you work or have a family, I can certainly understand not having the time. Goodness I do! I also know, as Michelle said, as a NEWBIE, it's so hard to instantly know and get familiar with each and all of the personalities on here. Over time you settle into each person's "style" so to speak. It's all good. Everyone gives what they can. There are just FAR TOO MANY details of each personality to EVER get them, and or keep them straight! lol
Just don't get overwhelmed okay..and before long you'll learn the tricks and get into the groove.
Part of feeling like you BELONG to the group, I learned this early in my posting on a board experience is to try and post to someone specifically, somewhere, if something they said connects with you...then you begin to remember and associate THAT with them. And they with you...and that's how you get to know each other. It works....and quite frankly, it's fun.
No Becca...your email wasn't TOO GROSS...darn it! I was HOPING it would be! DANG!
CAROL!!!!!!!!!!! YAYYYY ON THE OLD DRESS!!!!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

We hear so much about the kids that isn't good, it was great to hear about the kindness that is out there too.
Funny story: In business school, I saw the CEO of the Gallup Organization talk to big shot alums (one who give $100/year or more, so not super big shots, but ntl). In his talk, he talked about an interesting set of poll questions they put in. The two questions were like this:
How would you rate the quality of public schools?
How would you rate the quality of the public school that your child attends?
The finding was interestings. People rate public schools terribly. The worst they've ever rated. But they rate the public schools their kids go to at the highest they've ever rated them.
The finding, as I interpret it is this: Public schools (and therefore the kids/teachers/etc in them) are all right the more familiar you are with them. The further removed you are from the concept, the more you believe they are failing. Even when you KNOW your local pub school is great, you still think of public schools as horrible.
I blame the Cato Foundation, but I suspect there's enough blame for the perception of a problem that is way out of line with the problem.
I suspect if they asked the same question only substituted Kids Today for public schools, you'd get the same results. They are the worst they've ever been, but my kids are all future einsteins.
Any rate, off the soap box and back to reading.

Anniesnan: Be careful with the "giving up counting for the weekend cause I'm more active." I'm not saying count everything, but if you're not going to count, avoid stuff that is carby hardcore. You might want to try and put together today just to see what I'm talking about.
Max, you are 100% right!
As I think Missy wrote, I sometimes feel so "at home" here, that I forget you people can't read my mind
I did not mean I wasn't going to count carbs per se, but that I wasn't going to count.
For me, that means avoid everything carby unless I already know what the count is.
So, if I have some half and half or cream in my coffee, I'm not writing it down - but I'm not having carrot cake:D
If I have a handful of nuts, I'll have a handful, but not the whole jar.
And more, I did write not count, but I meant not weigh, measure, write down.
thanks!

Sunday is our combined day off, but boy were we busy. I was up at 5:30 searching recipes for a pancake recipe without egg/dairy or wheat and had to make our grocery list out and figure out what to eat during the week. Then we went grocery shopping to 2 stores; then we ate lunch; then we drove down to Racine (20 min south of Milwaukee); then we came back; then I made a pot of turkey chili (Fran McCullough's Bowl of Red); then Michael made a boneless butterflied leg of lamb ($22  ); then we ate; then I called MIL in Oregon; then I got the chili portioned and in the freezer; then I rested...whew.
Will not figure out the carb or protein counts as we tried a gluten-free baking mix for our pancakes and Michael didn't want to tell me how many carbs were in it. Found an egg substitute...1T boiling water mixed with 1 T flax flour...very gummy. The lamb was the first we ever prepared....it was very tasty but chewier than I thought it would be. Baked a small yam with it which was high in carbs and I think I baked it too long...very soft and too sweet.
Supps: Yup
Water: Yup
+1: no scale peaking
Workout: read the above...no time or energy (go ahead...wet noodle me)
