PLEASE NOTE:

Many of these recipe collections and websites make recipes available for personal use only, and where that info is known up front, we've included it in the description of the site.
In other words, you may not upload recipes to the Protein Power forum from sites that only allow downloads for personal use without express written consent of the owner of the recipe. You may post a link to the original electronic version of the recipe, and describe it, but you may not list the ingredients or quote the directions.
If you create a new recipe inspired by one you found on the 'net, credit your inspiration, substantially change the ingredients and convert the directions to your own words -- well, then, post away! ;)
Posters of recipes uploaded to these forums which may be in violation of copyright protections will be asked to edit their posts to remove the recipe. If those posters can't or don't edit the post violating copyright of another site within 24 hours, it will be removed by the site moderators.[/B]

When I first joined the old PP boards in Feb. 2002, Diana's cookbook, which was part of the PPPics site, was one of the first things that I downloaded. Unfortunately, the link to the original file no longer works, but I did save my zipped file. Unfortunately, since I can't upload a zipped file, I will have to break the file into attachments. Meanwhile, here's the link to the file from the yahoo! group files. You'll need WinZip or another unzipping utility to open the file after downloading it. As far as I know, these recipes are public-for-sharing, and this download doesn't violate any copyrights currently in effect. If anyone knows Diana and can confirm differently, please contact me ASAP. Until then, this cookbook is here as it was on the original PP site, for free and general use, with much thanks to Diana for compiling the recipes. You will need to be a member of the yahoo! group PPBBS to download this file; if you haven't joined that group (our backup address book), feel free to join it at this time. It's closed to new posts, but new members will still be accepted for the address book functions.

She has a great Low Carb Gourmet book, too. I like it because it seems like "real" food to my family (who do not necessarily follow my method of eating). Recipes we can share.

cmcole, I love Karen's cookbook and the results of her recipes. She was a member of the old eatprotein board, and posts regularly on lowcarber.org, where she has her own forum. I think this thread would reach more people in The Protein Power Kitchen forum, with the other links to public recipe sites, so I'm going to move it there. Thanks so much for the link!

I'm a huge fan of the Low Carb Gourmet book! I cook out of it often.

I'd highly recommend the garam masala spinach recipe on the page above. It's fantastic!

Oh, yes...and any of the fish recipes, and all of Karen's sauces. I've also made the cream cheese noodles, and they're great!

At a loss for new recipe ideas? Epicurious is a site run by the same people who publish Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines. They have about 500 recipe that they list as Low Carb. Although they do not provide the nutritional counts for there recipes I have run some through my cook'n program and found them to be generally low in carbs.

At worst it looks like a great site for Ideas.

Here is the link for their Low Carb (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/find/browse/results?type=browse&att=159) section.

Kevin, www.epicurious.com is one of my favorite sites (next to www.tvfoodnetwork.com). It's also the provider of 'the recipe of the day' for people who use yahoo!...and it's full of not only recipe ideas, but technique questions and references.

I, too, like that site. I have used it as a jumping point for recipes.

I also like the Chef to Chef site. They even send weekly e-mailed recipes (not all LC, but interesting), if you subscribe.

Today I rediscovered a few old friends...PBS TV show chefs who also have websites. Julia Child's site has a few free recipes, but even better it features videos of techniques, excerpts from several of the series' in which Child starred ('Cooking with Master Chefs,' 'In Julia's Kitchen with Master Chefs,' 'Baking with Julia,' and others that feature recipes within them, and is just a great online reference:
http://www.pbs.org/juliachild/free.html

One site I'd never seen before, although I really like his books, is Rick Bayless' Mexican recipes site:
http://www.fronterakitchens.com/cooking/recipes/

They are not de-carbed in any way, although many traditional Mexican main dish recipes are NOT high carb, and the sides of tortillas and beans can be eliminated. But they are ALL authentic Mexican recipes, and I'm especially intrigued by the seafood variations. I made Bayless's Campeche Style Baked Fish tonight for dinner, with a few variations to fit in the ingredients I had on hand, and it was terrific. Enjoy!

Noticed this on the Active Low Carber boards...it's a new 'recipe search' tool from Google, called Cooking with Google (http://www.researchbuzz.org/wp/tools/cookin-with-google/). You put in the main ingredient(s) you want in the recipe (separate multiple ingredients with a comma or spaces) and then choose from seven categories (General, Vegan/Vegetarian, World Wide Cuisine, Atkins Diet, For Diabetics, Seafood, Crockpot REcipes) and click the 'Grab a Recipe' button. It returns a list of recipes from site archives (the 'Low Carb Friends' site's recipes came up in most of my Atkins Diet searches, for instance...)

It's a lot of fun to play with, and there were some great ideas. I plugged in 'tilapia, lemons, basil' and got Thai recipes when I searched World Wide Cuisines, several grilled and baked tilapia recipes when I searched seafood and Atkins, and a few Cajun smother ones when I searched 'General.'

Enjoy!

I am looking everywhere for dry curd cottage cheese to buy for our selective carb diet. Anyone who can tell me a website??
Thanks,

Gcartwr, if what you're looking for is Friendship Farmer's Cheese or Dry Curd Cottage cheese, as in this link: http://www.friendshipdairies.com/products/farmerhoop.shtml

then you should be able to find it at one of these retail stores:
http://www.friendshipdairies.com/Retailers/index.shtml

I know in the northeast, it's available at Wegmans and Price Chopper supermarkets, in the dairy aisle.

This is older info from the SCD site, but some of it may still be current:
http://www.scdiet.org/7archives/scd010_2.html

Hope this helps, and welcome in.

I used to get dry curd cottage cheese and Farmer's cheese where we lived before.

I can get neither here, and I even checked with the dairy company in the city

Found a great store near my workplace, in Long Island (Holtsville, NY) called, simply enough, 'The Diet Shop'...link:

Amongst other products, I really enjoy the Big Train pancake batter and Choc Chip cokkies.
