Just a quick question for y'all. Is popcorn allowed on a wheat gluten-free diet? I wouldn't think so, but I've read on some sites that corn is okay. Protein Power, on the other hand, says NO. I ate some popcorn Saturday and met with unpleasant circumstance 2 days later (this morning, actually). I wonder if the popcorn was to blame. ???

Lulu, I can tell you that I'm celiac and popcorn has a bad effect on me. I love it, but know better than to eat it.

Lulu,
I am on a Gluten Free diet and popcorn would be allowed except that I am allergic to it. My doctor generally says do not use the microwave popcorn because of the kind of oils they use. He recommends air popped or popped using organic coconut oil. Because it is high in carbs it is not recommended for PP. There is a big difference between being gluten free and being on a nutritious GF diet - you can replace nearly all gluten containing junk food with gluten free junk food and many people gain weight on a GF diet. M & M's are GF, but a steady diet of them is not healthy. Alot of the processed GF foods have higher carb contents than regular processed food. My GF diet is limited to organic fruits and veggies, and organic lean meats & poultry and wild fish. I lost 55 pounds since January when I went GF and also stopped eating foods I am allergic to such as dairy, corn, almonds, soy and bananas. You need to be checked for other food sensitivities as those with gluten intolerance are often unable to handle dairy and soy since the proteins are very similar.
Have you been GF long?
Debbie

Hey, girls! Thanks for the replys. I'm pretty new at trying the gluten-free diet, so I'm still learning. A further complication is that I'm also diabetic and am controlling the diabetes with diet only. Wow! Talking about a challange! And now, I've just been (almost) diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. My fingers in my right hand have been swollen, painful, and with very limited range of motion now for over three months. OUCH! :frown: Ah well.....That's just life, I guess. BUT, I'M PRESSING ON! Thanks again, and...
Blessings to everybody.
