View Full Version : November Challenge Day 26

Not far to the end of the month now! I believe Shadow has great plans for getting us safely through the next one :D.

I'll wait until Thursday to see if anything's changed during November, but I'm not expecting anything to be different. Maintenance is boring like that .

I'm planning leek frittata for lunch, then roast lamb for dinner, so there shouldn't be any problem with the food numbers today. Went to church this morning, so exercise will have to be in the afternoon.

I decided to venture on the scale this AM. I was up 1.5 lbs which I will gladly take. I haven't gotten to the gym since my son was home but did get in some walks but you know not the effort I was making and will when he leaves. Time is so precious for me to be with them, ain't no bones about it! :) But I think the 1.5 is water, hopefully, so I have a few days to get back on track and still have lost some lbs this month is the goal. I will weigh and measure on Thursday for my month end.

Colorado son and I went to a movie yesterday afternoon--Don't bother one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. But we were in the mood for something silly so we saw "Deck the Halls" --we came out of the movie theatre hysterically laughing not because it was funny but because it was so bad. Ahhh still fun!

Today nothing planned, making some Christmas goodies to send home with my son and I am sure he will be watching football. Gabe has to get things prepared for class tomorrow, I still have another day off!

This router thing is pretty darn cool. I am sitting on the living room sofa all prooped out with pillows drinking some wonderful herbal tea and typing away.

Mitra is right The Shadow has something wonderful for December to keep us on track and help us get through a month of challenges, Shadow I am in!!!

Will check in later, I do believe left overs for the day are the meal planning I am doing!

Well gang. Yesterday the most SURREAL thing happened in my family...and it resulted in me totally turning to carb porn, but well...considering, it was one of those moments that WHATEVER!

Before you read this...just know that my family is OKAY....THANK GOD!!

My sister and bil went to the cemtary yesterday to lay a wreath at my BIL's mothers grave (she's been past now for years) and they were doing the annual "let's clean the summer debre away, and leave a evergreen wreath" visit. My sister and brother were clearing away the weeds on their knees....when from out of no where a man came up and stole my sister's purse that was laying on the ground. My sister yelled, and my brother in laws instinct was to tackle the guy. My brother in law did and wrestled with him, as my sister yelled "He's got a KNIFE!"...and sure enough....through the struggle, he stabbed my BIL in the shoulder and managed to scrape the top of my brother in laws head (with the knife)! My sister leaped into action and picked up a short handled (medium sized) shovel and was able to WACK the guy on the backside.....she says she would have wacked his head but it was to near my brother in laws head! ~

Anyways...the man was telling my brother in law "Your going to die!".... somehow though, the man escaped...after my sister wacked him...and he took off with her purse. As he was escaping...my sister's instinct was to go after him more with the shovel...and as she did, he managed to slice behind her ear on her neck and got her too!

Needless to say, he managed to get away with her purse...and my brother in law yelled for my sister to stop. She did. He ran. My sister and brother in law were yelling for a van that was driving by to "stop him!"...just because of the intensity of the moment...and sure enough, it was a couple of guys that saw most of what happened...so they gave chase! But, then they saw that the guy still had the knife...as they had him cornered...so they backed off. The man ended up dropping my sisters wallet...but we are unsure yet if they found her purse yet!?

My sister and bil called the police on 911 and they quickly got there! Took them both to the hospital last night, and THANK GOD they had NONE life threatening injuries!

This all happened in the MIDDLE of the afternoon...around 3:00....

Now....for my part of it.

I was watching the evening news....at 6:00 and a story came on that two elderly people were stabbed and robbed at a cemtary in town...and at that time, they didn't have a name of the victims....but they showed thier "car"...and well, I knew from earlier in the day, that my sister and brother in law were going to the cemtary...but? FOR THE LIFE OF ME I didn't recall the name of the cemtary of which his mom was buried. I knew it was in the "old" polish neighborhood...but not an area that we frequent because it's not a very good neighborhood (obviously) anymore.

So, I began to instantly worry...because too many things were coinsidence. My sister and bil weren't "home"...and it looked like their car....so I started calling around to see if my other family knew of the cemtary, but not wanting to cause unnecesary alarm...I didn't want to call their son's number since he's out of town. BUT, I eventually did..as my sister wasn't answering her phone!...duh! In her PURSE!

I didn't have my bil's cell phone either!....so my nephew called him, and SURE ENOUGH IT WAS THEM!!!!!!!!! And they were on their way home from the hospital! They were relatively calm about it all...and they were fine...well, considering.

It's been the LEAD story on the news last night...and very SURREAL.

My husband and my bil went and bought all new locks last evening, and installed. My husband is very GREAT at those things! We got them settled down and taken care of and hopefully they slept reasonable?

I totally blew my diet last night...as it was comforting for us to get out the thanksgiving leftovers and eat them at 10:00...and that included chips and a sweet salad and bananna cake! LOL....you know COMFORT!..and I can't think of a better time to need some! :D

Of course, thankfully, our family has such a WICKED sense of humor...that we can find the laughter at the most serious of moments. WE laughed at the fact that the news crews who "jump" on news stories refferred to my bil and sister as ELDERLY! LOL Their only 49 and 53! lol ~ so, we felt that was additional violation that was unnecessary! LOL

So, anyways...if you've made it this far. I hope to have a semi normal day today considering. We were planning to go to a Christmas open house home tour of my teachers...but it remains to be seen if my BIL and sister are "up" for that....or maybe just my sister will be...or not. We'll do whatever feels best...or stay home and help them deal with the emotional aspect of it. I think my nephew is coming home perhaps today...so perhaps that will be emotionally healing as well.

What a day.

Thanks for listening!

OH MY!!!!!!! Missy that is way to scary, we live in a world of idiots. I am sure they have given the police everything and hopefully the man will be taken care of. Oh that is an incredibly scary scenario for your sis and BIL particularly not to mention the whole family. I would have caved as well for comfort!

Today Missy lets go for your zany normal kind of day!!!

Missy

Yep, SCARY HUH!? But...we'll find the love and comfort in just this situation and be ever so GRATEFUL for what DIDN'T HAPPEN! RIGHT!?

MISSY ZANY LUNY DAY SEEMS rather DELIGHTFUL a thought! :D

OH GOD!!! MISSY!!! What a scary thing... I hope your sister and BIL to be well, and the whole family... I cannot understand why such bad people exist...
You are in my thoughts babe!!!;) ;)

Well, I'm a bit ill today... kind of cold... so, I'll take it easy today... I'm having a hot chocolate in this moment (sugar-free of course...), but I have a bad headache, surely because of the cold. So, today, it will be a quiet day for me...:)

Missy! Oh...my...gosh! What a scary thing for your family to go through! I'm glad that your sister and BIL are okay, though. Gosh...I just can't believe all of the crazy people out there who would threaten someone else's life! I'm sure I would have succumbed to carb porn, too.

Hi, all.

Missy! I'm so glad your sister and BIL are okay. Things could have been much worse. It comes close to home for me too because my parents are buried in a very old cemetary in a very bad part of town. I don't dare go there after dark. Saying a prayer of thanksgiving for your family.

Virginia, sorry you don't feel well. Colds are such bothersome things, huh?

Thanks for all the hugs, ya'll. I'm much better now. :)

Just one church service today, but next weekend will be 3. I'm about to put a turkey breast in the oven, so I guess I'll have tons of protein this week. ;)

Wow, it's hard to believe that Christmas is less than a month away! Have I done any shopping yet??? NOOOOO! Most of my family lives out of state too. Well, the good part is that when I do shop, I have my list made out of who gets what, and where I'm going to buy it. I can get most of it done in 2 or 3 trips. Now, if I could just get someone else to wrap it and ship it. ;) Aren't gift cards the greatest thing?

Hi to everyone, and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Kathy

HI, Y'all,

Wow, Missy, how frieghtening! I'm so glad your sis and BIL are allright!
I hope they catch that creep. No telling how many folks he has robbed and traumatized. Will keep your you and your family in my prayers.
I would have caved into the carbage, also for comfort.

Billie, our scales must be talking. I was up two pounds, but I know it is bloat from the way I feel.

Virginia, get to feeling better. My DH now has larygitits, no fever, but just can't talk. I am making him rest, drink fluids and no talking. He has solos to sing at our church later this month, also, performances with the local chorus all through the month of December.

Today was an exercise tape, upper body weights before church.
Son is coming over again today, so cardio/walking will have to wait till later.

Can hardly wait for the December challenge, no matter what, I'm in, Shadow!

Hugs,
Claudette

WOW MISSY!! I just thank God that none of you were more seriously hurt. Glad you are maintaining sanity at least somewhat! I guess it's a wake-up call for all of us, that we never know when someone is just lurking around, waiting to accost one of us as we go about our daily business. I can't blame you either for falling for some temporary "comfort"!:)

Kpow, we're doing the same thing!! I can't resist seeing the lonely turkey breasts on sale and no "home", so I took home 2 of them, and one just got cooked, the other is frozen. Our guests took some of the turkey the other night, so this will give me more to eat for the coming week. I never get tired of turkey it seems.

I just said goodbye to #1 son who is going back to college this afternoon. It seems he wasn't here long enough, but, Christmas will be here sooner than we think and then he'll be home again. (I'm going to say "Lord willing", after Missy's episode.):)

Well, I have to go exercise soon. Yesterday I got there around noon and someone brought in their VERY noisy children so it wasn't quite as peaceful as usual. I rather like having the place to myself.

Well, back in a bit!

Well, I haven't left yet. Hey BECCA!!!!! How 'bout them Gamecocks!!! Bet you were proud!:evil: (even thought they beat your son's team Clemson). We watched the last part of it.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. It's grey and drippy up here today but at least it's 50 or so. Can't complain.

Off to the gym.;)

Good Grief, Missy!!!! I can't begin to imagine how you felt, much less what your sister and BIL went through. What an amazing story! Well, under the circumstances, having an off day totally understandable. Whew! Glad everything is ok, and that you all will have an incredible new family story!

Wow.

Missy

Thanks everyone...so sorry to "unload" such a tramatic story in a thread like this..but well, I just had to unload it somewhere!

The day unravelled in a jillion phone calls as the day light began this morning! This story was the lead story on all the tv news stations..and even would have "breaking news" mentioning the story....but it wasn't till late evening news that they "attached" my sister and bil's name to the story...and the mayor added a $5000 reward! Surreal I tell ya SURREAL...especially when YOUR FAMILY is the story and your sitting there absorbing with them! Wild.

Well, as soon as it got a reasonable hour this morning, the calls started rolling in. My sister and bil hadn't slept the greatest last night, so they got up early and went back to the hospital because my sister hadn't recieved a tentnious shot (by mistake)..so they got up early and took care of that...leaving US as the people that people we know (friends) to call us to know what happened and how they are doing!

It's very touching to feel how quickly news carry's and the genuine concern everyone has...and how shocked everyone is to realise it was "somebody they knew!"

Anyways, my sister and bil came home and they were doing okay today....so we felt comfortable leaving to go to the open house...as my nephew was soon to be home too!

Anyways...it looks like the police have a very good lead on the man..and several witness's plus my sister and bil and identified the same person in a photo lineup..and this particular man has been trouble in the past...and even his family "turned him in"....saying he was acting weird, and his history is of doing this, and he's particularly violent! After my sister and bil identified him this afternoon....they were (the police) going to go after this suspect with the SWAT team this afternoon. Let's keep our fingers crossed! We haven't heard anything yet though.

Again, there is MUCH to be thankful for...and after actually SEEING the wounds today (they were bandaged)...well....I think so even more! gulp.

It's stunning me to think that what my sister and bil went through...and seeing how they are dealing with it all..and we are dealing with it all...well, it just goes to show you what having a good sense of humor can do for ones soul!

My sister says she feels "naked" without her purse...so I made up one for her to carry today! lol I put in woman's "stuff"..and we gave her an old cell phone of ours (it doesn't work, mind you) some of my checks and a check registure(with instruction that she CAN'T USE IT!), advil, lipstick, some of my old credit cards (out of date), a photo copy of my drivers license. lol (my sister looks NOTHING like me)....and an address book and old calender of mine! LOL We found an unused wallet and I put money in it for them...change too!

She took it down with her today when she went to the police station! LOL

When the news crews called them today for comment (which she/they don't wish to have any) she told one of them that we got a good laugh out of them calling them "elderly" last night!...lol To which that news woman was SURE it wasn't "their" newstation...and was glad to hear that we can find the humor. We can ALWAYS find the humor! lol

My eating today was me attempting to stay on program...BUT well, I had a couple of cookies at the open house..and some chocolate at my sisters....just because I'd get so darn nervous and shaky at times. I came home to stuff some low carb chocolate, and handfuls of pecans...so, I'm sure I'm over...but, I'm just doing the best I can....without being awful.

What gets to you is just imagining what COULD HAVE HAPPENED that didn't! MUCH MUCH TO BE GRATEFUL FOR!!!!! MUCH!

Thanks everyone for listening and for your prayers! I'll calm down with this as I get back into the stride of this week!

Howdy y'all. I didn't actually go anywhere, been reading, just not posting. Realized earlier that I haven't said a word since my report Thursday night. I had a bit of off the wagon Friday night and have been sulking ever since. Fighting headaches the past 2 days as well (minor ones, probably tied to the lapse in eating or something, will elaborate in my journal).

Anyways....

Missy! My goodness! So glad everyone is OK and that they have leads and whatnot. Will be praying for you and yours.

Joanne the game was GREAT! and my son was on TV! Twice! I love close games anyway, much more fun to watch, even better when we win them! :D I haven't actually heard from my son since then though. He's probably sulking, DD2 has been a little bit (he's managed to convert her  ).

Max I read your report on your trip! Sounds like you handled everything very well.

My scale didn't budge this week. Though under the circumstances that's a good thing as I was expecting it to have gone up a tad.

I am back on track now though.. and other than coming up short on water somehow am doing good.

Today's Numbers:

Protein 131 grams
ECCs 20 grams
Water working on 128 ounces, may get another 16 in before bed
Supplements Morning only
Exercise none - think that's a lost cause for me right now, just going to focus on getting my eating back in line.

Holy cow, Missy! That's all I can say!

Today was the last TG dinner and I'm glad it's over. I got sucked into playing Trivial Pursuit 80's version. I do believe I was in a coma during that decade because absolutely nothing sounded familiar! My only excuse is that I met DH in 1981 and we married in 82, so I was kind of "busy". ;)

Anysay, I was doing the social thing, even though I sincerely wanted to be home working on my project, and that's a bad mix for me. I ended up frustrated and ate some carby food, so here's yet another day when my ecc's aren't going to be under 40. I owe myself a walk, which I will take shortly. The good news is that there was a delicious pork loin served as well as turkey. Having had turkey for several meals this weekend, I chose the pork loin. My protein intake is good. So's the water.

Kathy, I can't get into serious shopping until it snows. That might be this weekend!

joanneb608

Carol, I agree, I NEVER feel like Christmas shopping until about Dec. 10. Or at least when there's snow on the ground. Some years we haven't had any though.

Well, tomorrow's my late night so I will report in about 10:30 pm for the day. This afternoon I added a little to the cardio workout and added 10 more pounds to one machine for upper body.

Glad to hear you're settling in a little, Missy. What a shock! Hope they get that guy soon.

Wow Becca, your son on TV! That's great!

Thanks Billie for checking in on us. Your avatar is GREAT!

So, hopefully today we can all begin to chill and get back into the routine of life again! :D

Thanks for listening...(like you had a choice, sorry)...and know that I won't be venting some more.

I'm stickin with ya!! :D Thanks for the support girls! I'm doing well. I'm in control of eating anyways! lol

They arreigned him today, and posted a $500,000 bond...and no chance for a 10% bail either! :D I "just" saw a picture of the guy on the news. :jawDrop:

Seems as though the police have him as a suspect on several "other" charges for other incidents too! Good...the more the merrier!

My poor sister is got such an onslaught of phone calls..lol It's rather amusing to me....lol and it's very touching...but it's non stop! lol They went to a doctor's appt this morning and came home to 15 calls on their recorder! lol She asked me if I want to come over and they'd "hook me up" with my own "bank" of phones! lol

na. lol

I can't even begin to tell you how surreal this all is. lol

The mayor of Toledo has now even called them to check on them...he was one of the fifteen messages! lol  I wonder if the PRESIDENT will call?!? lol (just kidding!)

LOL....that's right....He's goin DOWN! :D

Actually, it's been quite the humorous thought knowing my SISTER wacked the guy in the back with the shovel!! LOL We're calling her "The Wacker!" LOL

I gave her a really tiny toy cap gun that was something we had that was a childhood toy of my husbands...and I put it in her replacement "purse"....for protection...for some "HEAT!" Lol Now she's the Packin' Wacker! LOL

I tell ya, our family finds the humor in ANYTHING! :D

I would have loved to see your sister whack him with a shovel! Quick thinking on her behalf! It's amazing how fast the brain and body can react in times of "fight or flight".

LisaS
11-27-2006, 12:57 PM
well, I've heard more than one experienced person opine that if you get in a knife fight, you're going to get cut - you can only try to control where and how. So, sister & BIL did very well.

lessons learned:
- just like mom told you: leave your purse under the seat in the locked car
- don't be afraid to use the shovel

Missy
11-28-2006, 08:55 AM
Actually Lisa... we were thinking that it was a good thing that my sister's purse was laying on the ground...and away from her....and was "available" because that was what he was after. IF he didn't have easy access to it...we figured he would have attacked them for my bil's wallet and would have used whatever MEANS (his knife) possible.

As the guy came up to them from behind...my sister said yesterday.....he said "I'm going to take this." and my sister said if he wouldn't have SAID that, they may have not noticed. But because he did. My sister reacted. Then my brother reacted.

But, as with anything, hindsight tells you what you'd do or not do differently!

And, in the end, despite the tramatic experience and their injuries...perhaps DUE to the trama it caused everything to slow down enough cause enough comotion and allow others to get involved enough to ID him....and give chase..and make him drop things....and allow more witness's to the crime...to eventually catch him and do so quickly!? Which was the end result! :D

The good news is that not only do they "have him"...but my sister got her wallet back, with all her credit cards, band cards, and all of the money that was in it. He didn't have time to get it. However, her purse is still missing. Her wallet had a "good" print on it...so hopefully that will connect him totally! Plus, the police "found the a knife"..so hopefully that will have evidence on it too.

His next court appearance is on the 5th...so? we are unsure yet if my sister and bil have to go and testify?? Something was mentioned that it will probably go to a "grand jury"?? Don't know the in's and out's of such stuff..so we just wait and be told what to do and when. Thankfully the news coverage has calmed down.....very surreal.

I'm going to just "add" information about this situation, for anyone else interesting in the results of this story on this thread so I don't contaminate any other thread with these details...if that's okay?
