and he is doing well, he got treatment very quickly and they put in a stent within an hour of onset of pains. He is after less than one week within 8% of full heart function. It was really a freak thing.... he passed his recent stress test, but from what the doctors can summize is that he had a small bit of occlusion, but well within normal range for his age ( he is 60) but that some plaque broke away and formed dam, creating the blockage.
He went in Monday evening and was out by Friday feeling great. And when they sent in the dietician he told her that he does not need advice, and sent her away. But wow the food they fed him, high fructose corn syrup in italain salad dressing, and we could not reason with them.
But here is my question, when we have face off with is doctor I know we are going to have an issue over statins and the cholesterol issue and the way we eat. The nurse was chirping....cheese goes right to the viens ( I just rolled my eyes) He is on quite a few meds right now and I know the plavix and such are for the stent but really wonder about some of the othe stuff. I really want to armed with as much info when we step into the doctor's office. And I know about changing doctors, but he does need to have cardiologist for now, and we are in a medical group, but the lsit of doctors is long, but I do not want to spend moths interviewing them.
Any advice?

Not all cardiologists are low fat fanatics (after all some guy called Atkins was a cardiologist!). If I were in your husband's shoes (or yours) I would certainly be supplementing CoQ10, fish oil and or krill oil and magnesium but make sure you tell your physician what you are doing as some of the drugs he will be prescribed in the recovery phase from the stent have similar blood thinning and 'platelet aggregation inhibiting' effects - so at the very least the dosage may need to be adjusted accordingly. Statin medication is up to you - you are in control here, not your doctor. What are your husbands ratios like? Has he had things like CRP, fibrinogen and homocysteine tested? If these have been within normal range and the cholesterol type and ratios are good that should put the talk of statins in perspective. It would also be a good idea to check serum ferritin - as per PPLP.
BTW, do you know the generic name for Plavix? Not sure I would be swallowing anything called Clopidogrel !:p
Hope your other half has a speedy recovery.

I don't have any advice about finding an understanding doctor. Perhaps telephone to ask the nurse if the doc is open to a healthy foods/primarily veggie and good fats/ low carb nutrition plan.
You are both in my prayers for your husband's speedy recovery and laying aside of residual fear for you.

My thoughts are with you and your husband. May he have a speedy recovery. What stress for you both, I can't imagine. I have no advise, but I know the ones above and the ones to follow will. I just wanted to stop by and give you my well wishes!

Hello, i am not really sure of how a treatment goes for a heart attack but i can tell that my grandfather is having a treatment with plavix (http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s3145-s-PLAVIX.aspx) and with omega3 (http://www.utmem.edu/campusrec/omega3.html) capsules and some lipidor (http://www.bbonlinepharmacy.com/product/111/lipitor-atorvastatin/) for the cholesterol level.
That seems to keep him fit at 75 years of age.

My husband had an heart attack and was put on all kinds of meds also along with Plavix.
One thing you will want to watch with the Plavix is after long use the blood does thin and so scratches and cuts can bleed a lot.
As far is a diet, do research on your own is the best. I had to do this and test foods, and watch the meds he was getting. He has the best doctor there is for his heart. Dr told me that he would have the dietician come in but Dr knew I would be able to change Ken's diet to a good healthy one.
And I did, did a lot of research and did my own calculations on the foods and nutritants. One thing you want to remember is keep the salt away or throw it away with heart patients. Second protein builds new blood cells and heals. You do not want to over do it but make sure for a while good protein in each meal. Lean meats and good oil, think fish oil was mention if you need to use it.
There is so many different ways of cooking food, and takes a while to adapt to cooking different and eating different. But will say for both of us we felt a lot better and was able to lose weight also.
Not sure if this help but I am with prayers with you and your husband.
