I was about to make cranberry sauce (cranberries, water, touch of lemon juice, spices and stevia) -- and decided to try a few raw. To my surprise, they were quite good in a tart, tangy sort of way:thumbsup: . Does anyone know if it's safe to eat them raw??? They didn't give me the "hungries" the way most fruits do. Thoughts?

there are lots of recipes for a raw cran relish on the 'net
http://www.cranberries.org/cranberries/recipes_cranorrel.html
- and they are popular dried - so assume you can eat them raw if you like them.

The only problem with the dried ones is that usually they are soaked in sugar first. Best to dry your own, I guess.

Strange, when I used to go picking cranberries with my dad, I used to eat the brown speckled ones (we called them spice berries), and even some of the fresh cranberries. The only way I eat them non-sweetened now, is by adding them to breads, muffins, etc. I hadn't actually though of eating them straight from the bag, anymore.

Most of the time, I bring them home and throw them in the freezer anyway, so I wouldn't just have the opportunity to grab a handful.

I know this is an old post, but i thought i would chime in with something i like. Sometimes I will make my Palio Punch with Strawberries, Fresh Raw cranberries and ICE. I blend it up in my frosty maker. YUM!
The strawberries balance out the Cranberries, at least too me. However, I like to eat them straight out the bag too.
