For the first time ever I gave my real weight when renewing my drivers' license. At 52 it is great to weigh the same as I did when I got my first license at 16 (although I shaved off a few pounds even then). I think the lady behind the counter even believed me this time!
Wouldn't it be funny if they had a scale in the photo chair and made bets with each other how much each person shaved off their real weight?

 Congratulations !
that is TOO funny. I was thinking the other day that I am currently 15# UNDER my (untruthfull) DL weight for the first time in forever - and by the time I have to renew in 2008 I will be at goal !

Great story. Thanks for the smile! I suspect if there were a scale in the photo chair, more people would be driving illegally!.

Great for you ... but weird! Why on earth would your weight be relevant on a driver's licence? I think I'd tell them to mind their own business!

The only reason weight might be relevant on a drivers license is if it helps to identify which body is which in a crash (they ask for birthdate, gender, height, weight, hair & eye colour). No wonder Canada has now added B&W digital photos so that biometrics of face shape can be analyzed, since all of the above can be lied about or altered with dye, contacts, heels or surgery. ~30 years ago I asked "who wants to know?" and the DMV worker said she had to put something, and suggested a number ~50 lbs heavier than my "public" weight (~35 lbs heavier than my actual weight) - so they force you to give a number!
I always gave a weight in the ballpark at the time of renewal (mainly to avoid snickering) and never felt the need to lie about the other parameters. It is interesting that other countries don't ask and my weight does not appear on my US or Canadian passports or international drivers' license. This gives credence to my thought that the weight request is mainly to amuse DMV workers.
Perhaps the requirement of listing "weight" on the main form of ID is responsible for the north american obsession with weight. I now weigh 1 kg less than my truthful-at-the-time weight. But who's obsessing? I always weigh myself in lbs, and told her 138, my weight that morning, and she typed in 63 kg (139.23 lbs), but rounded my height up to the nearest centimetre too, so I can't complain.

I think it is because of identification, deirdra...
And, I have NEVER lied about my dl weight... maybe I was afraid I would be caught, LOL!
However, I do have a funny story... :D I got my license renewed in 2004, and when the lady asked me to check the info and correct anything, she had put my weight in as 100 pounds MORE than I weighed. We got a great laugh out of how EASY it was to lose THAT 100 pounds! :D

Oh well we have had a colour photo for some time (Canada went with B&W??). Most people here also renew their licence for 5 years - as 'we' know a lot can change in the weight department in 5 years!
One downside is that unlike a passport photo, you don't supply your own picture. Generally people go to a DMV centre to pay for the new licence and get the (generally horrible) new picture taken. One year, I realised by licence was dangerously close to being out of date, I was on holiday, so I thought I'd drop in to the local police station and explain to them, pay for the licence and then arrange a later time for the photo - the young policeman was quite unfazed by this - he took my money, gave me a receipt ... and then whipped out a Polaroid camera and proceeded to take a not so happy snap of a shocked, sunburned and unshaven me ... which was my photo ID ... for the next 5 years!!!

Canada had colour photos for years, but the latest ones are B&W with biometric facial analysis for more security & you need two forms of ID to get it renewed, and the Provincial Licenses now come from the Feds. Here we also have photos taken when we show up & they usually look dreadful.

Congrats, Deirdra! It's a good feeling about that, huh? That's amaaaazzzing to be the same weight as when you were 16!
I don't think I'll ever be the weight I was when I was 16. :o I was soooooo skinny...my mom thought I was anorexic or bulemic. I wasn't...I just had a fast metabolism and very active.
Speaking of drivers license weights, I have to renew my license by my birthday in December. So part of my goal/challenge for myself is to get to my goal weight by my birthday. Then, I'll only be 5 pounds over what my driver's license says I weigh. (If by some miracle I do get to my "actual" recorded driver's license weight, I'll be shocked! )

I don't really look like the person on my DL any more (aside from 45 pound weight loss, I got my hair cut short, and wear glasses now), which is kind of a pain because I get some weird looks like someone is verifying my ID. :P Really should go in and get it updated sometime...
