Valid Email Addresses
You don't need to register to read the board--but if you register, you do need to use a valid email address to receive the email confirmation link that finalizes your registration. Until your email is confirmed, you can't post and reply to existing threads or use any of the features of the board which are limited to registered members.

You must visit/maintain your email address inbox regularly to receive subscription and PM notifications. If you start registration but don't confirm your email address, and your ID remains in the 'users awaiting email confirmation' usergroup for more than seven (7) days, your ID will be deleted, and you will have to re-register. If you re-register and don't complete registration a second time, you will be banned from creating additional IDs.

"Users Awaiting Email Confirmation" are not yet registered users of this forum. They can't log in. They can't:

post or reply to posts
search the forum or use the 'New Posts' link
send PMs or email
read the 'Community Conversations' forums
download attachments outside the 'Getting Started' forums

While awaiting email confirmation, your ID won't have any member-level privileges. When you confirm your email address by following the link sent to that address, you will have full registered user privileges.

If at any time you change your email address, or your mailbox refuses the email notifications sent by the server, your account will be temporarily moved to the 'Banned Users' usergroup. When you log in, you'll see a message to contact an administrator. If you do not contact an admin within the period where the account is temporarily banned, your account will be moved to 'inactive users' and you will lose your posting privileges. We do this because when members' email addresses start bouncing, the admins and moderators inboxes start to fill up with failure messages. We don't like spam either. :) Once you correct your full-inbox problem or confirm your new email address, you will be returned to Registered User status and can resume posting.

If you have activated a spam control that emails unrecognized senders asking them to follow a confirmation link to verify that they are valid before the email is accepted, then you MUST add the address "forum@proteinpower.com" (no quotes) to your 'accepted senders'/address book! Earthlink email users, this means you!;)
The forum server can't, doesn't and won't respond to automatic messages from your inbox requesting that it confirm itself as a legitimate email address--and they just clutter up the inboxes of the moderators and administrators, who can't respond either. If you have spam controls in place, it's your responsibility to ensure that forum@proteinpower.com is included in your contact list. Do this BEFORE you sign up!

Here is some additional information regarding the email address you use to register. This and other information can be found in the FAQs thread in this section.

Why do I need an email address to register?
The webmaster sends a verification link via email to all new members to safeguard the board. Unless the new member confirms the email address using the link, they have not completed registration. Use an email address that you maintain regularly. If you don't, and you subscribe to threads or forums or set your profile to receive notifications of new PMs, all of the moderators will receive notices when the inbox of the address you used to register fills up and stops accepting messages from the board. If that happens, your ID may be placed back into the usergroup that requires you to confirm that your email address is valid, and may be deleted if you don't send the server that confirmation.

Can I hide my email address?
By default, email addresses are hidden from everyone. Your profile is set as: Automatically show my email address? NO. The owners of the board do not have access to your address; only a board admin can see the address to contact you as part of a mass-email from the board. Your address will not be used by this site for any commercial purpose; it will not be released to other members unless you enable that in your profile.

I don't want to share my email address with this server.
That's fine--just create a free ID and email address at www.yahoo.com or www.hotmail.com , and use that email address. However, you still have to *maintain* that address, go to it and retrieve the email the server sends and confirm that it's a valid email address. We understand that people want and need to preserve as much privacy as possible. However, the forum website is not commercial, and it won't send spam to the email address you provide during registration.

I’ve registered, but I never got the email link.
Every screen name/ID must have a valid email address to register at this site. Some email programs automatically filter email from unknown addressees to 'Trash' or 'Junk.' If this happens, please add the board's address to your address book/contact list. If you still don't get the email, please contact one of the administrators by clicking on the 'View Forum Leaders' link at the bottom of the forum list: dvdmon, Gabriel Guzman or Gaelen.

AOL Members, please note:
Depending on the time of day you register, there may be a short delay before you receive the verification email. Please be patient; it can take as long as a half hour before your email address is verified through the AOL servers. During that time, you are able to read the board but you still may not post until you receive the verification email and confirm your email address using the link in that email.
