And we're off for another week! I am going to be doing a slow and heavy type of rotation as it's too hot to do anything else :p. What's everyone else up to :)?

I'll be doing my usual yoga regimen. My brother and his family will be here from Tue night to Friday sometime, so I'm not sure what I'll manage on Wed & Thurs, but I should be able to get five full sessions in during the week. It's a bit cooler now (low 20s/70s) so that shouldn't be too much of an issue if the forecasts are right.

I'm actually going to make it back to the gym -- I've been on this WOE consistently now for 2 weeks -- I believe the old body can handle a nice workout at the gym. I will probably go back to the old routine --
1/2 hour cardio (trying to build up the heart rate)
45 min of resistance training
15 min of cardio to warm down.

It's not quite as hot here and it's been a week with some cooling rain most days. For some reason I need a pressure support on my right wrist (possibly RSD on my mouse hand) or it gets a little "toothache" whenever it bends a certain awkward way. The band alleviates this but it has been there almost a week and much more noticeable if I don't wear the band.
On top of some outdoor chores this week I've set up a workout room up at the new location (ran extensions for phones and computer to an unused room, brought weights/bands and I'm on my own and not much work until staff return from holidays). This is a rareity and by late August it should be back to normal (hectic and not enough time).
Sunday - Day off
Monday - Bench Weights at home, Hand weights at work - Lunchtime 45 minute walk/run around campus
Tuesday - Volleyball at lunch, batting cages in evening
Wednesday - lighter weights daytime - Baseball 5:00-6:30. If I do heavy wights before a game I cannot throw as well.
Thursday - Volleyball at lunch and 45 minute walk/run to Rideau River in the evening
Friday - 1 hour walk with wife at 3 X Moonies Bay hill after work - 45 mins hand weights to movie later
Saturday - ???
I gotta get back here. I miss Randy to much and Shadow... My husband bought me a portable DVD player because he does not like the bike in front of the TV. It is way too hot to walk outside. The last time I went, the second mile Gus would not walk and I had to carry him the next two miles.
Today.. The bike for 45 minutes. Hand weights.. upper body
Big Dawg.. That is exactly my routine. My work hours keep switching and I keep getting weird viruses. I don't have a good immune system. Next week, I am back to a regular schedule again.. I am going back to my weights at the gym
Monday.. bike and upper body
Tuesday.. bike and lower body at gym
Hello... Hot Wednesday... Ride that bike Lynnie...do that upper body weight lifting!! Goin down and put a movie in the cool basement now..

Well I'm back to normal ( i guess lol)... I miss the gym, I have a bum knee and I'm generally pooped!!! lol I'm going to get back on track using pilates (at least the ones that won't aggravate my knee) and try to rehabilitate my knee using some stuff that Shadow has so thoughtfully helped me with. I'll post what I've done every day by adding to this post. Is that the way its done here? If not just holler at me and I'll cooperate.. I promise. :D
Hugs ~ Ally
Tuesday ~ Well I got up and did an AB & Core workout. Actually I made it through 2 of the 3 sessions. Later today I'll do some leg conditioning and post it as well.

Hawk & Ali, it's good to see you both over here. Ali - you can put your exercise in a single post and edit through the week, or put up new posts as you go along. Whatever works best for you.

Just touching base mid-week. This is a scorcher and I did not play volleyball at lunch today and likely won't on Thursday either. I have walked the underground tunnels between buildings but it does not measure up.
I did get into my trunkss when I got home to do some bench weights out in the sun but even cut that a bit short.
Definitely drinking more and eating less ... I hope this is a measurable difference on the scale at the end of this heat wave.
The garden is doing FANTASTIC!!! The Spaghetti Squash have climbed the bordering Cedars almost 20 feet up! My wife pointed out that they are climbing into trees on neighbor's property as well and I may get a call on that. I'm not going to cut them down but will pull them down after harvest in October. As well I planted 2 English Cucumbers and they have spread as well although not climbing above 6'. They seem more prolific than my regular cukes and I prefer them.
Do Your neighbors like spaghetti squash??

Sunday - long walk/run with dogs (over an hour - closer to two) - hot & humid - stopped mid-journey to let them jump in the river with my hubby - I stayed on the rocks like a chicken.
Monday - Gym after work (first day back at work, and it felt like I had no energy for the gym, but went anyway). Tough workout, only because of the lack of energy, I'm guessing. Later, walk with dogs - probably 30 - 40 minutes
Tuesday - about 11 km with dogs - over an hour - run and walk. A little cooler, sometimes - the weather kept changing

Well, I didn't get me 2 days in last week because I got sick. :( Picked up a stomach bug of some type and have been miserable that last few days. Today is the first day I feel anything like normal. I'm going to try and make it to the gym today for a lower body exercise, and then upper body tomorrow or Friday so I get in my 2 days this week.
Oh, and I couldn't believe it when I checked out the special radio group deal thing last week. There was another fitness center that had a $25 2-month membership special going, so once this summer membership ends, I'll be able to start there and check out another club for a couple months before I have to decide if I want to pay the "real bucks" for a full membership somewhere.
This deal includes 3 sessions with a personal trainer plus a free nutrition consultation and a free physical therapy consultation. So even though it's only 2 months instead of 3, I think all the extra personal attention makes it worth the $$. It also includes free Pilates classes, which is something I'm interested in trying...

The neighbour who's yard it is growing into is the neighborhood grinch. He is a hermit and we rarely see him, but I expect to hear from him when these things start falling in September.:D The squash grew great last year but this year is just amazing and they seem to just reach at least 6" higher every day. I have 4 "Cobra" Tomatoes that have grown into another neighbor's yard and we have a deal ... what grows on his side is his harvest. The Cobra is a long "snake like" tomato plant that is short on produce but a very long single stalk that requires a trellis or mesh to grow on. It is my last year for them. About four years ago I began using ground felt or landscape cloth over teh whole garden to prevent the need for weeding and it has improved the yeild on everything that is not attacked by slugs or earwigs. The ground cover increases the numbers of both those pests so I dont grow lettuce and they leave the Chard alone for some reason. With the tomatoes I put a few handfuls of Cedar chips/mulch at the base of each palnt and it keeps the slugs off since they will not crawl across it.

Sometimes planting marigolds help deter bugs. But you are probably correct - earwigs like dark, damp places, so your felt is probably ideal for them.
Buried (to the rim) saucers of beer is an attraction for slugs - you just have to clean out the drunken critters every day, though.
Complimentary planting (carrots/tomatoes for instance) is one way to ward of certain insects, too.
I did not know that about the mulch Randy.. I am going out and doing that now!! One bed is wonderful and no problem but it has mulch. the other one is plagued. I had no idea.

There is something in Cedar that burns (no flames:rolleyes:) slugs as they crawl on it. It is a little expensive si I use it just on the base of my tomatoes, since the slugs don'r seem to bother anything else ... yet.

Well, my lovely plan just went out the window, but for a good reason! I went to get my allergy shot today, and they happened to have the Blood Donation van in the parking lot of the clinic. I've been meaning to donate blood for a while now, so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity fate seems to have created for me, and donated blood. Yay for me!
What I didn't know until it was too late was that after donating blood, you're not supposed to do any strenuous exercise the same day. So there goes my plan to exercise after work today. Oh well, the heat index is up over 100 anyway, so waiting until tomorrow when it's supposed to be cooler is probably a good idea, right?

A blood donation is as good as a workout in my book any day. It tends to "normalize" your blood and gets rid of excess iron and a few other things as well.
You won't get the HDL boost benefit from that the missed workout but missing one workout would likely not have a measurabkle effect and you can pick that up another workout anytime.

Way to go, Mary ! Definitely worth the miss - especially if you get it in tomorrow ;). And yes, waiting for a cooler day is better anyway :D!
