Hi Everyone, I'm new to this site and Protein Power. Having been thin my entire life, I gained 75 pounds during my pregnancy (our son just turned 7) and originally lost 31 pounds with Weight Watchers. While I know it's a grreat plan, I do feel that I buy a lot of processed foods and we spend a lot more money when I do the points system. I've never done low carb for more than three days - but did do the South Beach Diet for two weeks and lost seven pounds. How does PP differ from Atkins? I have heard bad things about Atkins and how danergous it is with the emphasis on eating a lot of fat.

I am not a big eater and would like to get away from the mentality of writng down my food menus. I know how important it is to track food, but when I focus on eating protein - my appetite diminishes. I currently have forty pounds I'd like to lose.

Thanks for reading.

Welcome, PurpleRose :). If you go to this thread (http://www.proteinpower.com/forum/showthread.php?t=71), there are two articles worth reading. One compares PP with other plans and the other is the basics of Protein Power. Also, I would suggest either investing in one of the books by the Drs Eades or in getting a copy to read from your local library if one is available . Nothing beats reading the book which will help you understand the plan and how it works, and will also answer most if not all of your questions.

Welcome, PurpleRose. The articles Shadow linked should help answer your questions. PP allows higher carb levels in the weight loss stages compared with Atkins Induction - so you can have more veggies and more variety. But it's still likely that you may find you're eating more fat than on weight watchers - not the cheeseburger and bacon for every meal of the popular portrayal of Atkins, but not avoiding the fat that comes on your meat, or using low fat salad dressings, fat free cheese etc. If you're used to thinking that fat is bad, it does take a bit of mental adjustment, but don't think you need to eat masses of greasy food. I find I eat mainly whole foods, with just enough fat to taste good. Sometimes I have a creamy sauce or dressing - but not gallons of it.

If you read Protein Power, or Protein Power LifePlan, it's clearly explained why eating fat is not unhealthy (but it does have a lot of calories, so you can't have unlimited quantities and expect to lose weight). The fats to avoid are trans fats, and highly processed vegetable oils. Butter, olive oil, the fat on your meat and in your milk and cream are fine.

Read all the information you can find, and ask lots of questions :).

Thank you both very much. I do happen to have the Protein Power book and I had Protein Power Life Plan, but sent that to my mother. While I did great with Weight Watchers, I do find that I consume more processed foods that I care to. This week I decided to use my WW points, but eat mainly eggs, lean meats and a lot more vegetables. I did that once before and it worked very well. While I know I don't need to keep track of how much I eat, it really helps me to see on paper what I'm eating. Thanks for the warm welcome.:D

Stephanie - It sounds like you're off to a great start :D! Writing down what we eat does help keep us on track, especially in the beginning. Shoot - I did it for 4 years . But once it becomes a part of your regular routine to eat this way, you'll find you can really ease up on the journaling :).

See, Mitra, a definite case of "never say never"! Gosh - was it only a year ago (or less?) when I was swearing up and down I'd have to journal forever :p? However... if things don't soon change here, I think I'm gonna have to go back :(. Oh well - nothing like the big M to keep us ladies on our toes, huh ?

Welcome Purple Rose. I happen to love purple roses. I love peace roses too. I hope you find us all helpful and encouraging. In Billies thought for today she spoke about courage. I think that we all give each other courage every time we enCOURAGE each other.

You know it! Today I had three eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch, celery with ranch and three eggs for dinner.;)

Stephanie - Just curious here ;) but what is your minimum protein per meal? 3 eggs are only roughly 18 grams of protein so I'm just wondering what your minimum is. As for that salad, I assume there was some meat on there :p!
