I lost about 30 lbs. on PP. Then around the time I went back on SSRIs (anti-depressents like Zoloft, Prozac, etc.), I also went off PP. When I was better, I tried and tried and tried to get back on PP. But I had lots of trouble sticking to it.

When I switched P-Docs last fall, my new doc told me that SSRIs have been associated (anecdotally, as are many "side-effects" of SSRIs) with heightened carb cravings.

I don't think there is really anything you can do about this. However, for me, just knowing that it is there as a side-effect of something, not something that I was doing wrong or had to overcome, really helps me in the "mind over matter" aspect.

I've always been really good about listening to my body and it's instincts for food. Interestingly, as soon as a I started SSRIs for the first time I really started to pile on the pounds (I'd always been 25 lbs above where I wanted to be, but now I'm 90 lbs. up). So I have to really re-learn. Now there's something telling me I want carbs that's not part of my body's natural instincts.

I feel more confident about ignoring these cravings when I know it's not a real body need. In fact, the longer I low carb, the more even keeled I am mentally. It's a bear to fight one's brain all the time this way.

Anyway, I thought this info might be helpful for those of you on SSRIs.

I admire your determination and I wish you all the luck in defeating the carb cravings. They can be addictive all on their owm and I think that it is aweful that it is a side effect of certain drugs

Hopefully, it will get easier with time as it does with just plain ol' carb addiction.

hugs,
