After using regular powdered slimfast for breakfast and lunch-main meal in the evening,i developed diarrhea.I ceased the diet.A week later,i tried the same again.I developed diarrhea again.Spoke to slimfast customer care adviser-received a letter saying-"..We sell many packs of slim-fast and can assure you that we have not been notified of any similar incidents. It is worth noting that gastroeteric symptoms can be the result of infection from a number of viruses....."?

While it's true that viruses and bacteria can cause gastroenteric symptoms such as diarrhea, cramping, etc. in your case I would be that it is an idiosyncratic reaction to Slimfast or one of the ingredients therein.

Were I you, I would avoid both Slimfast and their customer service center.

Cheers--

I used Ultra Slim Fast 2 years ago as 2 meal replacements and 1 regular meal for 2 weeks. I ended up with IBS and diahrea for 6 weeks. I tried the protein slim fast 1 month ago the same way and I have had diahrea and stomach pains for 3 weeks now

Hi Teresa--

Were I you, I wouldn't try it a third time.

Best--

According to this website Slimfast changed the name of the Ultra Slimfast formula, but not the formula itself.

Hi Amy--

Thanks for the website. In checking it looks like the Slim Fast Optima is the replacement for Ultra Slim Fast. Optima isn't exactly the same as the Ultra Slim Fast in the paper (or the researchers could have had their numbers incorrect, which is absolutely possible) because Optima has 24 grams of carb per serving whereas the Ultra (as described) had about 50 grams per can. The Optima cans contain a little more than 10 ounces whereas the Ultra (again, as reported) contained 15 ounces. Whatever, it doesn't really matter because I don't think the carbs were the cause of this guy's problem anyway.
