This last one on CHEAT really cranked my ire! There are always the nay-sayers, aren't there?

If the guy was as successful as some attempt to make him sound, he MOST CERTAINLY would NOT be selling phones. Lots of people sing with lots of groups and lots of people work second jobs while they hope to make it big . . . but to make it REALLY big it also takes lots of time, effort, money and luck. He obviously hasn't had much of any of them, yet he has one of the most splendid voices I've heard for quite some time!

I know three personal acquaintances who should be every bit as famous as some of the goons out there with their names plastered on the billboards, but they ran out of money, time and energy. They never got the break they needed and ended up settling down and raising families - working 9-5, perhaps even as telephone sales people!

Paul didn't deceived anyone. He said this was his last chance. Thankfully, they were willing to take the chance and give him the opportunity for his much-deserved break.

I look forward to buying his music and immersing myself in his fantastic voice even though I'm not even an opera fan!

CHEAT CHEAT CHEAT, yes my thoughts too.
He only won because of the "the ugly duckling" life he claimed that he had lived.
I think it's all a mediastunt.
Let's find an ugly operasinger, whith a 9 to 5 job, who ordinary people can idintify themselves with, and petty.Even though they never listened to opera before they will buy his lousy cd, which we will put on the market one month after his winn.Forge while the iron is hot.....NOT?!

Opera is NOT my thing AT ALL - but this guy has THE most amazing, clear, beautiful voice! What is the name of the piece he is performing here? So captivating!

The song he sings in the semi-finals is Con te partirň, a modern Italian song made famous by Andrea Bocceli back in the 1990s.

Cheers--

The final has just finished, and Paul won it.

I was so pleased, a deserved win!

Thanks Mike I would not have even gone looking for the show to watch if it had not been for your original post on him.

Wow, he's really getting a celebrity status quite fast. Do you think being named Paul Potts helps in any way?

I don't have a clue.

Well he's not quite as unexperienced as he makes oot..sadly !

We wuz 'done like kippers, my son'

Type in his name and Bath Opera for the site

Paul Potts (Don Carlos) is a relative new comer to Grand Opera after an apprenticeship in Gilbert and Sullivan in Bristol.. His claim to fame is his 1999 appearance on Michael Barrymore's My Kind of Music. This was followed by singing for Bath Opera in Turandot as Prince of Persia and Herald. He has since performed with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and spent three months touring Northern Italy as a soloist, training under top teachers Mario Melani and Svetlana Sidrova. He has been invited back for a concert to be recorded and also for a masterclass with Luciano Pavarotti. Future plans include a summer tour with the RPO.
or type in Paul Potts Bath Opera into google and look down.

So he's not quite what he makes out to be by a long shot

Hey Simon--

I wuzzen't done like a kipper. No one develops a voice like that by singing in the shower. He had to have had training. Just because he sings with some local and regional opera doesn't mean much because most of those small opera companies are dreadful. I would suspect that most of the people who end up in the finals of these shows have undergone a ton of training, so we can't blow Paul off as a cheat because he's done some opera.

Cheers--

I didn't know the UK had a show like this one, too. The first judge Piers is also on "America's Got Talent" with David "Baywatch" Hasselhoff and Ozzy Osbourne's wife. I don't know who the blonde bimbo was. 8-O

This man is indeed INCREDIBLE! What's he doing selling cell phones?! He should be going around doing television commercials with that booming voice singing, "Caaannnn yoooouu heeear meeee nooooooooooowww? Gooooooooooooodd!" LOL!

THANKS for sharing, Dr. Mike! I wonder whether someone in the U.S. who had a similar remarkable talent as this guy would even stand a chance on the American version of this same show? I don't think he would.

Who knows? I've learned to never underestimate the average guy whether on stage on in the audience.

Cheers--
